Which test is that?

To get the correct color reading, hold the vial up with a white surface or paper behind it and good lighting towards the background. Don't get your fingers behind the vial.

High TA will drive the pH up to a level that may be higher than wanted. But if you maintain your pH in the 7's, that will slowly bring the TA down. Some try to speed up the process by adding acid to get the pH down to as low as 7.2, waiting until it gets to 8, and then repeating. For now, as long as you keep the pH in the 7's, the TA will lower, no need really to rush it. You'll get to the point where the TA level naturally wants to keep the pH in the highish 7's for longer periods, with much less need to add things.

Here's a discussion about using Muriatic Acid vs ph Down. Mostly a difference between price (muriatic is much less costly) and comfort level handling the liquid acid. Muriatic Acid vs. PH Down -- compelling reasons for MA?
