Hey All,

I recently purchased a home with a inground appx 27,000 Gallon pastered pool. This is a my first full season of trying to maintain my pool (daily upkeep, have a pool company that opens and closes the pool) and I think im doing okay for the time being but I recently installed a pentair IC-40 SWG. The SWG is working fine but it looks like my pH is very high and FC is very low. I have been using test strips which I undertstand arent all that accurate. I have used muriatic acid a few times to try and bring pH down to no avail. My pool is about 50% shaded so Im not sure why the FC is so low especially when the SWG seems to working. I check about 1x day to make sure things are in line and working. I have a pool that was built in the 60s so I only have one skimmer that often gets a ton of debris in it and have to emtpy 1-2x/day and maybe this is causing the flow to get backed up and not procudinbg the needed chlorine? Unusre right now but trying to figure out how to raise chlorine levels and I think this is why my pool chemistry is off.

The pool is crystal clear (aside from my polaris collecting a good amount of DE every week). It feels good on the skin and there is no burning in my eyes when open underwater.

I bought the TF-100 testing kit. I used the OTO test and confimed that the pH is high. Its hard to tell what the chlroine level is by looking at it but there presence is detected.

My questions for the group and hoping to get some direction are what test should i start with to understand my baseleine. Ie. Should I use the CYA test as to guide me on where my FC needs to be or vice versa. any other test to start with ?

The pool looks goods, and feels good. We have had several people swimming in it for about a month and nobody has compained to me about look, feel, taste, smell. Nobody has gotten sick (aside from me! but might be unrelated).

Apprecite all the help from a true newby pool owner

Use the CYA level to determine the range you should keep the FC in…

Use the FAS/DPD drop test to test FC level.

Raise your FC to the desired range using liquid chlorine then use your SWG to maintain that FC level.

You using PoolMath?

Thanks foe the suggestion. I just downloaded it and will test water tomorrow to get a reference point for CYA. Many Thanks! will post results
