New swamp (hopefully pool again) owner

There is only one clear. Clear - no cloudiness WHATSOEVER! Just be patient and keep slamming. The later part of the slam will not show the exciting results of earlier periods. But it is key to continue slamming until you pass all three tests. The clarity one is one people seem keen to skimp on so I was just emphasizing that.

Looking good! You are gaining control of your pool. If you hear cries from your pool, they are cries of submission.

I think the reason people skimp on the clarity is because they haven't seen their pool clear before so they don't know that it should be crystal clear...literally.

While it is hard to imagine it getting much clearer (I can count the bumps in the plaster in the deep end while standing up, and I am not positive I have screws in the main's cover, it isn't sitting on center) I will keep going. It is nice that Kimkats said that the Mrs could take a dip if she wanted to brave the cold. She is definitely chomping at the bit. I added 64 oz based on a FC of 8.5 and CC of .5. The filter is still holding steady at 26 psi (about 4 below red line) and there is definite movement coming out the returns on the stairs.

Better get off to bed. Thanks for your advice guys.

FC was up to 14 this morning CC at .5. There was still flow at the stairs but the filter pressure was up a couple psi so I went ahead and did a quick rinse on the filter, started off good but even just 10 minutes later it was back to 26. Hopefully I will get a chance to give it a good clean out tonight. Yesterday I had to finish the mailbox and both the living room and patio furniture arrived so had to get that put together. The joys of moving right.

Well after I was finally able to do a really good clean on the filter today I did get the pressure way down. It has crept back up to about 24, but still doing OK.
I did break the ice and waded in today, as expected it was a bit chilly. I now know the main drain is at 4'10" deep. I noticed I couldn't feel as much suction through it as I would have expected. Also I can't feel any return flow through the furthest returns. One of those is missing the pop up assembly, though I think I may have found that one when I was mucking out the pool (one of the air jets at the bench area is missing too, but I never found that one)

The pool is definitely stained and there are a few places where the plaster has popped off. There; is quite a bit of calcium / lime scale build up on the upper tile and quite a bit of green fleck stuff on the walls especially,

Thanks :)

Filter is back up to 26 this morning, figured I would wait till this afternoon to clean it up since I have better time to hit it then. It is nice to be at a spot where I can go a full day between cleanings since it wouldn't even go 15 minutes a couple weeks back.

LOL on the moving AND trying to turn a pool around!

It sounds like you need to start saving your pennies for a new plaster job in the future.

Lets get the pool jewel like then we will work on the returns and such.

I was VERY disappointed with the suction of my main drain. I had vision of just brushing leaves and such to it and everything going away. Nope :( I can even put a leaf right on top of it and it is easy to just wave the leaf off as there is so little suction. Oh well........I know my skimmer works good and my cleaner does a good job on the stuff that does sink to the bottom.

I have really enjoyed following along with this thread and seeing the improvement and progression. It's amazing at what proper water chemistry can achieve without a bunch of added pool store recommendations that cost so much money - with 'not so much' results.

Thanks for following along. I am definitely learning quite a bit on this site, and it is nice to be able to put things into practice with tests, calculate changes and monitoring results.

Well picked up a solar cover tonight. Lowes had some closeout covers for $38.80. Figure even it it does die out early I am not out much since we will be looking at some kind of heat system by next winter anyway, but at least we can start bringing the temps up for this year.

Lots of projects both in and out of the pool to keep me busy in the near future, but will be sure to keep you up to date on progress.

Well it is super clear now. I can see minute details all the way down. I dumped in the last 54 oz of Clorox I have at the moment to get it back up to shock level, hopefully for the last time. I will go out in a couple hours after it has time to get good and mixed and get my baseline for the night and see where it sits in the morning. Bring on the OCLT.

I put that solar cover on yesterday as well (thermometer said it came up 2° from 68 to 70) but I notice what may have been messing me up a bit, and I kinda knew it earlier. I have a fine yellow pollen all over the place at the moment and today it is on the top of the solar cover instead of in the pool.

The numbers are in last night was at 12.5 this morning it was mostly steady at 12.0 with a .5 CC.

Guess now it is time to think about stains, though ultimately if it comes to it good water is far above stained walls on the pool concern chart. Figure we aren't likely to be throwing any pool parties anytime soon, so I can survive for awhile.

Will do, we went out on a dolphin watching cruise today so I didn't get a chance to pull the solar blanket for pics.
