Hi everyone, I'm new to inground salt water pool . I had a above ground chlorine pool for most of my life . I never really tested my water. 99% of the time Crystal clear no issue. I would run filter 8 hours a day, put pucks in , half bag of shock once a week perfect.
Now I have a salt water pool . I'm worried about the ruining the plaster in pool . I can't get the alkalinity down according to those strips and my free chlorine up . Can I use liquid shock in my pool ? I thought the pool installer said not to in can damage the plaster in the pool . Any help I appreciate it
Thank you

Welcome to TFP.
The TFP pool care process is based on self testing using a preferred test kit as shown
Test Kits Compared
Pool store testing and use of test strips is discouraged as they are not reliable or accurate.
Liquid Chlorine can be purchased at Walmart or Home Depot or similar stores. That will not damage a plaster pool. Your pool installer is wrong.
Is your saltwater chlorine generator (SWCG) working? It should be generating chlorine when the pump is on.
How long are you running your pump?
Tell us the volume of your pool, the type of SWCG, the type of pump and filter
