This is my first year owning a pool. I replaced the heater this spring after the old heater’s heat exchanger failed. The new heater was installed by my pool service company and has been functioning, but I noticed water leaking from the bottom several times. I notified my pool guys, but each time the leak would stop when they came to inspect. Today the heater started leaking again and I decided to try to locate the leak myself. Water was leaking from the yellow drain plug and flooding the bottom of the heater. The leak stopped after I tightened the plug, but now I’m concerned about all the visible rust and mineral build-up inside the heater. Is this because of the leak and water dripping inside or because of poorly balanced chemicals? Should I be concerned about other issues?
