New pump too big?

If you went to 1.5" plumbing on the return, then you might expect the following operating point:

38 GPM
46.8' Head
940 Watts

Not much of a change but there is part of the return plumbing that seems to have higher than average head loss even for 1.25" pipe. It is probably the filter so I assumed that would not change.

However, if you also changed the return eyeball to 1", you would get the following

42.4 GPM
45' Head
965 Watts

Also, since it would use more power with bigger pipe, should I partially close the return valve if I need to run it 24/7 to reduce flow/power draw?
As you can see, it uses a little more power but probably not worth worrying about.

It will reduce the total head and probably aid in circulation but I would keep both at 3/4" to provide a little higher exit velocity.
