New pump and the fittings leak

Cincinnati, Oh
I just replaced my pump and the fitting on the top of the pump leaks. I searched the forum and see that Teflon tape is not the way to go. In one thread I read about a blue, aerosol based product but couldn't find a name for this product. I also read that some people use Permatex #2 to seal the threads.

What is the name of the blue sealant?

Thanks

I don't want to use Permatex #2 ... you want to you teflon thread sealant.
Do you have the option to use union fittings directly to your pump? Which pump do you have?

If you are talking about where the pvc pipe fits into the iron volute, a generous coating of pipe dope (teflon thread sealant) on both surfaces works fine. Not too tight....maybe 1/4 turn past hand tight or so.

The fittings aren't cross threaded but the pump is making 19 psi versus about 10 with the old pump. When I installed this pump I added unions to both sides so that I can put the pump in the garage during the off season. I also had to step down the pump fro 2" to 1.5" and it's this bushing that won't stop leaking even with liberal application of Teflon tape.

i can't find the specific thread I'm referencing but many of the responses said to avoid Teflon tape and use permatex or the blue stuff instead.

What pump did you have and what do you have now?
If the pressure is higher (with the same clean filter), then you put a larger pump in with higher flow rates and higher electrical usage.
