New pump and cartridge filter questions

I just installed new Jacuzzi JVS185S/JVS270S pump and Jacuzzi JCF425 Cartridge Filter system. An hour ago. And perhaps I am too impatient. The priming feature worked great at the max RPM of 3000. It took 7 minutes and water was moving through the basket and pool outlet. The pool skimmer is another story. It doesn't seem to be vigorously sucking water in. It's sucking some water in because I can see it returning slowly into the pump skimmer. I have it running at its daytime 1750 RPM. I do not have a pool service where I live. The installer was a plumber who had never done this before but he was courageous and we babied through the installation along with the electrician. I'm just worried about the water intake through the pool skimmer. Should I be more patient? Thanks in advance.

If you are comparing the skimmer action to what you saw with an oversized single speed pump, it will be less. But if the weir door is down and water is gently flowing over it, the system is running well.

Thank you for the reply! Now I have another concern. I noticed that the pool water isn't getting significantly clearer. Note the date: it is now Friday since I posted. I also had zero PSI on the gauge. Yesterday, I decided to check the filter cartridge system. My plumber did not inspect the filter system [I should have since I have experience with the last one]. He simply unpacked it from the factory and installed it. The O-ring had slipped off into the drum. It was extremely difficult to get the O-ring to stay in place. I struggled for two hours realizing that there was not sufficient room on one side of the filter drum to bring the metal band around to secure the top down. The O-Ring kept slipping off because I was having to manhandle the whole system just to get it reassembled. I thought I had finally gotten the O-ring to stay in place. By the way, I noticed that the cartridges were dirty so something has been happening in there. It's been 24 hours and there is no appreciable rise in the PSI...maybe 2 or 3 now. I called Jacuzzi customer service. They suggested taking the filter apart again [groan] and seating the lubed O-ring in the drum then waiting for a day with open to the air. I'm so exhausted from the last struggle with the filter. [I am 67 years old and doing this all by myself.] But I can't see any other way to deal with it. But letting the O-Ring "sit" for a day? Will that actually make it stop jumping off its seat?

Sara,

In general when you lube the large O-ring between the top and bottom halves of the filter, it is easy to stretch the O-ring. So, letting it sit overnight, might allow it time to shrink back to its normal size.

Thanks,

Jim R.
