My in-ground pool was just finished and filled. The pool builder came and added some chemicals the day after it was filled. He also brushed the pool and showed me how to brush. He instructed me to take a sample of water to Leslie’s on Monday which is today. He told me they would advise me on what chemicals to add from here on out. I went to Leslie’s and even though the water test showed that I have several number out of wack, they did not advise me to do anything about it yet due to this being a new pool. Is this typical? I am attaching the printout from Leslie’s. The printout is advising me to add chemicals, the associate at Leslie’s is telling me to wait a few days and bring in another sample. I am only questioning this because of things I have read that says I want to balance the water asap.

We do not recommend using Leslies to test your water because they are in the sell something - anything business model. You need one of our recommended test kits so you can do this yourself. Here is a link to startup on a plaster pool: Plaster Installation and Maintenance - Further Reading and further links for your consideration. Please read through pool school so you can familiarize yourself with the processes we recommend using.

In the meantime, please fill out your signature with the details of your pool and the equipment you are using so we have a good understanding of where you are starting at.

Welcome! It is irresponsible for your builder to rely on Leslie's for proper start-up in my opinion. Great thing that your TF-Pro has already arrived. In case it's not clear, the rules for the first 28 days of new plaster (start-up) are different than the normal chemical requirements.

I would ignore the Leslie's test completely. No need to even read the printout. Almost everything you need to know is in post #2.

Thank you all. I will test tomorrow and follow the guide.
