New Pool questions about TA

Good monring,

New to the SW pools, i have had a pool a few years ago, and it was a regular chlorine pool

Tested and was

PH 7.6
TA 240
Chlorine was 19 when tested but just came off of a slam
cya 60

should i worry about alkalinity being high, and add muratic to lower it? i have a waterfall, and deck jets i could use to aerate, but is alkalinity important? My tap water is around ta 240

MY PH was about 8.0 when i first set up pool, but for whatever reason it did come down to 7.6.

Welcome to the forum!
Manage the pH. When it gets to 8, lower it to 7.6. The TA will manage itself.
Be sure to test pH at least weekly. It will rise pretty quickly with that level of TA.

Thank you, that makes sense, i will keep an eye on PH and change where needed.
one other question,
i have a jandy pro system, and a variable speed pump, how low can i safely run my RPM's for the SWG.

Lower the rpm until the SWCg complains of low flow. Then add 100 rpm. That is your base flow. Be sure that works for skimming, etc.

Also download and use PoolMath on your phone. Turn on CSI tracking. It's a complex relationship with many factors, but TA, CH, pH and Temp are the most influential. With your high TA, you hope your CH is therefore lowish, so that you do not get heavy calcium build up on your generator's plates - which can greatly lower its life.

i havent tested my CH yet, but ill test that tonight.

To log historic tests, yes, you need the paid version, I think it's like $8 a year - I average it out to be about 4 cents a day...or just under one Starbucks coffee a season. IMHO way worth the price, and helps support TFP and the developer costs etc - plus No Ads..which is always good.

Pretty sure no one is getting rich off of PoolMath

Once you get the SWCG fully up and running, you will be swimming in excess cash, since you don't need to spend it on magic chemicals. Just some supplemental salt for the year, perhaps a few pounds of CYA for the year, and muriatic for pH control. So the payback period for the paid version of PoolMath will be a matter of minutes or at most a couple of hours......

Being as you're in Oklahoma, and a vinyl pool, I wouldn't stress too much about calcium as vinyl doesn't need any.
