I went to the pool store today to have my water checked…guy was very matter of fact that I needed to jugs of stabilizer said to open it put it in the water and shake and let it coke out until the jug was empty didn’t work well on the first one but did better on the second one….we are left with a bunch of stabilizer on the bottom of our above ground pool. Will it be ok. It’s in sunlight pretty much all day but my kids are going to want to swim and idk if the can with it still on the bottom of our pool. New pool person help!

We have had our pool up since may and I thought we were doing ok. After my sons birthday party it’s been more cloudy but I thought it was looking better until I took a sample to the pool store today. What our pool looked like before I added the stabilizer…

Welcome to the forum!
That stabilizer (CYA) left on your pool liner can stain it. Brush it, vacuum it, do whatever you can to dissolve it.
It should be dissolved/removed before the kids go swimming.
In the future follow the 'sock method' of adding CYA Stabilizer as described in Pool School.
I suggest you read through Pool Care Basics - Trouble Free Pool and even look at a few of our videos TFP-TV - Trouble Free Pool

Welcome to TFP! You'll find the pool store can be one of your biggest problems. Water testing and/r advice is often incorrect, and their products crazy expensive. To use TFP methods, it's important you test your own water with a "proper" test kit. It's easy and reliable. The accuracy speaks for itself in proper chemistry and less work for you. Consider ordering a TF-100 (link in my signature) or Taylor K-2006C.

Have a nice weekend.

Thanks guys most of it’s gone away just a little left in the pool today. It’s a Coleman soft side pool from Walmart. I do feel like the pool looks better and the jet is pushing out more then it ever has. This is what left. Can we get in and stir it around?

Scared to ask what that naked doll is doing in there, but you may have bigger problems than too much stabilizer!

See post #3 in the thread. If you want to really take control of your pool, you'll want to get a good, quality test kit and have confidence in the knowledge of your chem levels. Read up on the "pool school" here regarding how we take care of pools. The chemical levels we discuss here are different from elsewhere, and based on more current science and understanding of pool chemistry.

Everywhere else you dump stuff in your pool once a week, and hope that takes care of everything. If it goes cloudy or green, you dump more expensive stuff in and hope it clears it. And if it doesn't, and you've put hundreds of dollars of (probably unnecessary) chemicals in the pool, the store will shrug and say "dump and refill, your water is old." Here, we know what we're putting in the pool and why, and we are confident that the pool will be sanitary and safe. And it costs a lot less - a test kit to start, refills for the test kit every 1-2 years, and otherwise it's all just liquid chlorine, some muriatic acid when needed, and maybe sometimes some baking soda or some stabilizer / CYA. :)
