Just moved into a house with a pool. I discovered this pipe by the pool in the grass that is filled with water. Is this part of the pool and if is what is it for?
Use a Drain King or a garden hose with rags around it to force water down the pipe and see where it ends up. It could be a yard drain with no cover as it looks like a piece of the pipe is broken off.
Looks like a drain pipe for rain water. Maybe 3" or 4" drain pipe.
Likely plugged with debris.
If a drain, it should have a plastic grate on the top to keep larger pieces of debris from falling in.
HD and Lowes usually has the grates in stock.
Could be lots of things as others have noted. Any point to point drain is possible. Pool overflow could dump into another grate uphill from there. Gutter downspout could be piped to there. Or sometimes landscapers will do point to point grates to drain water from one spot to another. Could even be an inlet with the outlet being fairly distant - near the street or downhill someplace. Tough to force water into a 3" or 4" pipe but worth a try and walk the yard for an exit. Could also contact the prior owner - if they even know or cared to know and/or don't want to discuss problems they knew about. New homeownership can lead to so many fun and interesting treasure hunts! Place bets with friends and neighbors on what it turns out to be?
