I bought a basic above ground with an inflatable ring. It's a starter pool to learn from.

Roughly 3400 gallons of water. Pool great for the 2 of us floating with an adult beverage and cooling down on a hot summer day.

#1 issue. Pump not durable enough. This is year 2. in/out lines not holding up need to replace and original pump is cheap. i feel

is there a better built pump or should i accept yearly replacement and just enjoy our?

Your thoughts welcomed.

Welcome to the forum!

Head on over to the Above Ground Pool sub forum. Lots of threads on upgraded pump / filter systems for small pools.

Have you read Pool School - Guide for Seasonal/Temporary Pools Describes a simple water chemistry management scheme for small pools.

Take care.

Having once owned one of those big bag of water pools, I can tell you maintenance is far easier with a properly sized pump! You just can't vacuum effectively with the under powered pump/filter combos that come with those pools. If your plan is to up grade pools anytime soon you can get the bigger pump and filter now and attach it to your current pool. The intex sand filter pump combos work pretty well.

We like the size of the pool. It's not intended to be used for a large group or family. Generally for my wife and I just the quick cool off and enjoyment on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. I accepted the fact that a Walmart pool at $100 is very inexpensive. But i never dreamed it would be so difficult getting it to operate. I didn't consider it for a long term use. For crying out loud it was only $100. I thought i would use it to learn. But for several weeks...I never got it to work well for even a week. The pump had issues from the start and by the time I realized that the impeller was broken and ordered another one under warranty and got it installed...then i really had PEA SOUP.

SO but during the entire event we kind of appreciate it for the size. So I would like to up size or right-size my pump for the pool. I have found that most people at the pool stores only know what the instruction labels tell you.

I have been looking for such a forum as yours for reference. WOW have i been pleased with your sites support. I feel like I can win the battle over algae and pump with your guidance. I really do not wish to re-invent pool systems design. I just want my wife to enjoy her "adult size kiddie-pool".

At $100 for the whole kit and kaboodle, I doubt your getting anything worth while as far as a pump goes. You can upgrade there for sure. But in such a small body of water, you should be able to "mix" it fairly well yourself just by getting in a swimming around a bit. As a kid, we would has make "whirlpools" by running around the edge of the pool right before we got out. That really helped to get all the debris gathered to the center, which we would then skim out before we got out. If you did that for five or ten min, I'm sure the water would be plenty mixed.

What are you doing for testing? How are you chlorinating the pool?
