New Pool - lots of problems

So since it has its own pump does it not effect anything suction wise and it’s safe to keep in the pool all the time? This stuff is all very interesting.

The previous post that made mention of the missing diverter to close off the main drain is correct. I have two skimmers and a main drain; it wasn’t until I closed off main drain that my pool skimmed worth a darn. I know run 1200 rpm and it skims very adequately.

The pool company is coming out again to look at it today. Question for the two that said there is a missing diverter - before I push this on the pool company I want to make sure I understand. It seems like the diverter/valve on the pipe that is labeled Skimmer 1 will do this. If I point the "OFF" toward the pipe labeled main drain - doesn't that close the main drain?

One more question for you knowledgeable people - the pool company thought my issue was not super well cleaned filters, so they came out and did a chemical wash on them. Then put the pool at 100% and said "looks its skimming well now"! But from reading forums here, it seems like you shouldn't have to run your pool at 3450 rpm. So I switched it to 75%, that makes the suction is still so low on on Skimmer 1 that the basket in it floats up. They are coming out again today, via a text he wrote me, I think they are just going to try to put the RMPs higher. When I mess with the RPM setting, the basket does suction to the bottom and it skims better at 85%. Is this acceptable? Should I take this as a solution to my problem or is that way more than I should need for decent skimming indicating some other problem?

If you can close the main drain completely; you should be able to skim at 50% or less of 3450 rpm in my experience. Every pool is different, I may be misunderstanding parts of your setup. But running a VS pump at full speed, just to skim, is indicative of either a poor design, or a mistake in the plumbing, in my opinion.

Jim, if you know - do you think there is a missing valve that needs to be installed?

Ally,

The "missing" valve will not solve your problem.. It is not actually missing as what you have is a pretty common way to do it. I personally do not like the idea of using 3-way valves to control the inputs to the pump.. The best way to do it, is to use a 2-way valve on each line you want to control... It gives you individual control over each input.

The pool at my house has a set up just like yours.. It is not how I would have done it, but it works fine for the overall operation.

Thanks,

Jim R.
