First the test kit answer. You should have received an email with a discount code when you got that pretty badge over there. Look in your junk mail folder. If you cannot find it let me know and I will get you another one sent. Get the TF-100 + salt test from the test kit link in my siggy below. Oh and you want the whale wall brush. It will help the brushing of the pool so much.

Next best start up BUT it leaves out to NOT put water in the pool right away. Wait at least 6 hours after plaster is put in before putting water in!

Let me know if this helps. I don't who you could talk to in person about plaster start up. Most of my contact about this kind of thing is PM and on the boards. I have talked to some people on the phone to walk them through the first testing of their water. I can/will do this for you if you need me to. Just let me know.

Let me know which start up you want to use. I can point you to some threads to help you see how it is done.

Justin- While there's a part of me that is glad my yard and pool were done when I bought my house, and that there's no real need for big projects like this in my future, the other part of me is very envious of how you must be feeling just now! Congrat's! ;)

Thanks Dirk, it’s been quite a process, obviously not done. There are days I refer to this as the “hole from heck”. The scary part is, once I put water in this hole and it turns into a pool, I am scared, I am completely ignorant to pools.

they do look great, and Ray, the concrete guy, measured a point on each side and did the curve free hand from the side!!

Not at all. You know enough to be here at TFP! And that puts your PIQ (Pool Intelligence Quotient) at 140 just to begin with!! If you haven't already, read (or re-read) Pool School. It's all in there. And you'll have a bunch of TFP experts on hand to answer any questions.

I just went through this, and I didn't find TFP until Day Two of my new pool. You have a huge headstart.

If it makes you feel better, I was a bit nervous, too. And with TFP support and knowledge base that went away in a day. It's all relatively easy...
 
I think I read this somewhere, if I was to get water brought in, I wouldn’t want that until the pool had like 2.5-3 feet already in there? I realize this would freak out the chemistry....
genericaly how long does it take a typical pool to fill with one hose, obviously not knowing gpm.
I am going to fill a 5 gallon bucket, timed to see how long
 
The thing you want to watch out for if you bring water in is how they add it to your brand new plaster. You do NOT want them to shoot it onto the plaster with any force as it could mess up the plaster with the force. By having water already in there it will "cushion" the blow of the water going in to the water. If they use care you can add the trucked in water but that can be a big if so talk to them and see if they have a plan on how to protect your new plaster.

What are all the chem levels of your fill water? (Don't test for CYA, it'll be zero.)

Has no one here told you yet how to fill a brand new plaster pool, specifically about not stopping the fill for any reason?

Why are you considering trucked-in water? To speed up the process, I was told it took 5 days to fill, I asked my neighbor, she has a 9k pool, took 10 hours with two hoses, i estimate it will take 19 hours to fill with 2 hoses. I don’t anticipate using outside water

OK, whew. I thought it might be trouble trying to coordinate filling your pool part way, without stopping for the trucked-in water. So false alarm...
 
I have been reading the POOL SCHOOL and the Pentair manuals. Also talking to the plaster guy. If I read this right, Pentair says to not add salt or use the SWG for a month. Plaster guy says 1 week. Plaster guy says I can swim right away. If no salt added on my part and SWG not working...how do I chlorinate the pool? Do we swim for a MONTH with nothing but recirculating water?
