Think about what else you might want to throw into that trench: irrigation/drip lines, irrigation control wires, extra electrical for additional plugs or lights back there (on separate circuits) or pool automation, speaker wire, low-voltage landscape lighting wire, water line for hose bib(s), etc. I always recommend some ethernet cable or two or three (can be used to extend wifi, hdtv signal, home automation, video, intercom, security, all kinds of things), even gas for tiki torches or BBQ. Or a run of big empty conduit through which you could fish things in the future. Now's the time..

If you go with empty conduit, put it together with a rope running right though it. Then come fish time, you connect whatever you're running through it, plus another rope. Pull it all through, then leave the second rope for the next fishing, lather, rinse, repeat.
 
In general, I agree with Dirk - add capabilities for future expansion now even if you have no plans. But, check local codes first. In some areas, you can’t run different services (eg, electrical & gas) in the same trench.

Thanks everyone, I have had 2 separate walk through with different people talking over “what if” and “maybe” , thank you for your other ideas, pvc and conduit is cheap in the scope of things, and the grass is going to get torn up anyway. Full steam ahead

Well, since you're open to ideas.. and you're trenching.. and don't have the gunite in yet, how 'bout this! Come, I dare ya!! You've got the yard for it!

My g-son saw this and wanted to dig up the yard and run his track all the way from our house to the neighbors, under the fence!! It'd have to have an underground PVC tunnel, right? You better make it a 4-incher!!

The shotcrete guy came buy, said I need the bond or ground, ( #8 bare copper wire) not sure what to call it. Around the perimeter of the pool, four separate leads around the pool, light canister grounded, and the ground to the pool equipment. Then I can get the inspection.
My question is, how far from the bond bear do I put the cable?
How far down the rebar cage do I put the grounding leads?

Any my help would be greatly appreciated

Trenching update. Rented trencher on Friday afternoon, the store is closed for weekend, I got trencher for “one day price” for whole weekend. Sounds awesome, got 30 feet trenched, flat tire. Called rental place, said they could trade it out Saturday morning, loaded the trencher up, went to rental place, they can’t get parts till Monday. Can’t get tires till Monday. UGH! Called the other close rental place, the one trencher they have....already rented!!

Bummer about the trencher. Another reason I advise to think ahead for things to add to the trench. Once you got stuff in it and buried, you can't use a trencher the second time! I had to dig up my pipes by hand, on hands and knees, with the claw of a hammer, so I could go slow enough to protect the buried stuff! (I've had to do it three times so far, 'cause I keep adding "Just one more thing!")

Sorry can't help with the bond wire, I know what it's for, but not where it connects. When I'd get stuck on my DIY job, I'd call the inspector. Twofer: you get free advice, and you know ahead of time it's what the inspector is going to want to see! You could try the code books, usually on line, but I find them hard to decipher.

I established early on a "Gee, I'm just a shmoe trying to save some dough. Shucks, can ya help me out?" thing with my building dept. Suuuuper polite. Suuuuuper appreciative. I even set up a meeting with them, on the job site, to walk through the project. I had a list of "I don't know how to do this" items, that I ran by them one at a time. It worked in my case, they've been ultra helpful and very forgiving. That can backfire, I suppose, with the wrong guy(s), so ya gotta play that tactic by ear...

Hopefully someone here will know about the wire.

Sorry, not much help today. Serves you right for ignoring my brilliant underwater train suggestion!! :crazy:

I have done the claw hammer digging, so awesome.
I tried the code book, I think I know, hoping for some smarter advice.
I am all in for the underwater train

I don't care how much money you spend on adding whatever to your pool... nothing would get remembered more than an underwater train, I guarantee!

"Hey, remember that guy?"

"What guy?"

"You know. The guy who's pool we went swimming in that one time?"

"Who? What pool?"

"The pool! The one with the jacuzzi, and the waterfall, and all those fountains. He built the thing himself."

"Huh?"

"You remember. The pool with the train running through it?"

"Oh, yah! That guy!! He was so cool!!"

I do think my onsite meeting request set a good precedent for the whole job, as in:

- I'm not going to try and pull any fast ones.
- I want to do this right.
- I want to do this your way.
- I respect your opinion.
- We are partners in this project, not adversarys.
- I'm organized and forward thinking.
- I'm a nice guy.
- I'm honest.

I imagine inspectors hate showing up to a job that is half-baked with mistakes and missing things (not sayin' that'd be your job). You know, anything that smacks of work for them. But if you own it, up front, and ask them for help, and allow them to help you... who doesn't like the feeling of helping others (instead of chewing them out afterwards). It's a way to turn inexperience into an asset...

hello everyone,
wanted to give everyone an update, passed the pre-qunite inspection. I had to get some help with the equipotential part. After getting the help, I was kind of embarrassed. Quite an easy task. I will take some pictures and maybe a future OB wont have the issue. I had to run the conduit for the light, I watched the plumbers use a weed burner aka flame thrower to soften the PVC, not quite as easy as it looks, took my brother and I a couple of times to get it right, and I may have discolored the gray conduit in a few places. But, it will be buried in concrete in 48 hours!

I am getting a little excited, this giant hole will finally be a pool very soon.

I would have posted some pictures today, but got called into work

You don't know what you don't know...........no need to be embarrassed about not knowing how to do something.

LOL on the bending of the PVC not being as easy as they made it look. That is where time comes in handy. They do this all of the time so it IS easy for them. Good for you and your brother getting it done!

SWEET!!! Have you started bonding with it? aka watering it. This helps it's curing. You can use a sprinkler to help out once you get tired of hand watering it.

Guess what time it is! Time for YOUR own set of links!!! It is a lot of info so take it slow. It will all start to sink in when you start using it.
