We thought about build your own pool concept but found a good local pool company to build our pool.

This is our family's first pool ever. We so excited to start this.

You want your salt cell to be rated for at least 2 x the volume of your pool... This is because cells are rated when running at 100% output and 24 hours a day...

You do not say how much water your pool holds, but my guess is 20K gallons.. If so, the smallest you ever want your cell to be is 40K.

If you went with a 25K cell, in the summer it will struggle to produce the amount of chlorine your pool will need each day..

I would ask him to install a bigger one.. and here is why...

The cell you have is the T-9 which produces 11.2 oz of chlorine gas per day... That amount of chlorine will increase the FC in your pool by 4.7 ppm. Most pools use 2 to 4 ppm of chlorine per day, so let's assume an average usage of 3 ppm per day. To generate 3 ppm of chlorine, with your cell set at 100% output, will take about 16 hours... In other words, just to generate the 'average' amount of chlorine you need, you will have to run your pump for about 16 hours per day...

The 40K cell is a T-15 and it produces 22.4 ox of chlorine gas per day... That will increase your FC by 9.3 ppm... to produce 3 ppm of chlorine with the T-15 cell takes about 8 hours..

So, by going with the bigger cell, you can reduce your pump run time by 50% or you can leave the run time the same but reduce the cell output to 50% making your cell last twice as long.

Salt cells are like the gas tank in your car... The bigger the tank the further you can go... But, unlike the gas tank in your car, you can't refill the cell.. you have to buy a new one.. Bigger is almost always better...
