New Pool Build Specs - Looking for feedback/suggestions!!

Hi TFP fam,

We are looking to build a 5000-6500 gallon pool in the Houston Area. We have a small backyard, so that's as big as it could be. Our pool builder provided these specs for our future pool. We are still learning the different lines, specs, and also makers. So some feedback and suggestions would be helpful.

• Jandy 2.7 HP Variable Speed Professional Grade ePump
• Jandy Premium CV Series (460) SF Cartridge Filtration System
• Jandy Exclusive Versa Plumb Technology
• Jandy High-Efficiency Low NOx 400,000 BTU Gas Heater
• Jandy AquaLink RS-P4
• Polaris 7240 Sport Robotic Swimming Pool Cleaner with Caddy
• WetEdge Pebble Interior Plaster Surface - signature matrix
• 320 Inline Automatic Chlorination Dispensing System (Tablet Feeder)

Water feature

• (2) 4’9” Long (each) x 12” H x 12” Thick Pool raised walls each side of center raised wall --(1) 6’ x 18” H x 12” thick raised wall as per design. Finished with split face travertine all sides and a 16” x 24” travertine coping top.
• (1) 36” Scupper water feature on 6’ x 18” raised center pool wall of back pool beam.

Does these look good and appropriate to the size of our pool? Anything else we should take away or reconsider? The builders also said we could build it with pentair, but it'll be an extra $1600 more. We like the idea of pentair more but we're not sure if it's worth the extra cost.

We're also highly considering the SWG, which they said it'll be another $2700 more with a Jandy system. I'm following up with them in terms of the actual model.

Pentair is easier to source afterwards given Jandy is mainly sold to builders. I have Jandy and it's been solid for the last 4 years.
I would do the SWG upgrade.
I believe the RS-P4 is outdated now, but if no spa that may be why they are choosing that part, plus it could be stocked in their warehouse.

It’s worth asking your PB to provide equipment list for the Pentair option.

You absolutely NEED a SWG in Houston. Now if you believe you can install yourself for less, that could be an option.

Remember that you are purchasing years of chlorine upfront, for much cheaper than liquid chlorine. The time and hassle savings are priceless.

Remove the in-line tablet feeder. Totally unnecessary.

Ask for the price savings if you remove the robotic cleaner. You likely can purchase your own for cheaper.

This is it... except we're not sure if our pool pump will be allowed to be placed behind our garage... if not, it'll have to go in the yard and cut our pool size smaller.

We are interested in using the Pentair system. However, they're saying since they don't have a contract with Pentair, it'll be another $1600 more, not including the addition of a pentair SWG. Is that a worthwhile switch? They say Jandy is the best in the industry and has better warranty coverage.

Probably BS. They get a better deal and probably some spiffs for selling Jandy and if that's all they know then it's probably best they don't sell anything else. Others here will point out that there are no internet parts available for Jandy as all have to come from a dealer. Software updates are apparently very sparse as well. Maybe get a quote from another builder? Most of the In-the-Industry folks here prefer Hayward or Pentair with Pentair winning. If your drawing is close to scale, the equipment could also be put on the side of the house. But also if it's close to scale, how will the PB get their equipment into your yard?

There should be 4 feet to the water line, so they haven't mentioned it being an issue. Our city will have to approve whether the equipment could be put behind the garage, and it'll have to be a variance since they require 5 feet of clearance from the back property line to the equipment.

We've locked in with the builder and put down our deposit already. So right now, we are set to build with Jandy and could do Pentair if it's really worthwhile.

Do you need a heater in houston? Especially 400k btu seems high for a 6500 gallon pool, that's almost 10 degrees per hour temperature rise. Depending on weather you might consider a heat pump that could chill the water too

Kind of the standard here, so I'm sure the builder just has it on hand.
Comes in handy when it gets cool to keep the water nice, however this doesn't have a spa so... eh.

Hello!

We will be starting our dig next month and we have some time now through the holidays to think and decide about our choices. Our pool will be 10'x15', which is very small. We want to make sure we are finding design choices that will highlight the openness/brightness of the pool rather than the small size. Is there any pool owners who are familiar with design choices (e.g., pebble, waterline, split face) specifically for a small pool or know of any examples? Our builder asked us to pick from wet edge signature matrix. We would prefer a blue or aquamarine pool and would like to stay away from green hue or dark pools. For reference, we also have a charcoal fence and a red brick home.

Lets talk about your water line tile. There are different sizes, 1x1 small squares, 1x2 small rectangles, 6x6 is a very common size for waterline tile. Here are some examples:

Once you pick the size you want talk to me about your color likes and dislikes. The waterline tile has a huge impact on your water color so that is something to think about.

Do you like BLING? Do you want it to blend in with your plaster?
