New Pool Build Pearland, TX

Wow. I think we all need to head over to your place. You have it lookin' good! :goodjob:

Heck yea! Looking forward to many outdoor parties this summer. Thanks for the compliment!

Very nice! You pool's color and the waterfall are very similar to mine. I'm envious of your hot tub. We'd love to add one just like that. Enjoy!

Thank you! We had a couple neighbors around us have pools built these last couple years so we had plenty of advice and ideas!

I never considered mounting a TV outside. How do you protect the TV from the weather??

I bought a TV Shield. At first glance they are pricey but between the shield and tv I’m still ahead of what I woulda spent on an outdoor tv. Plus if the tv goes out it’s easy and cheap enough to replace though I doubt it does this thing is fully enclosed and westherproof, plus has internal fans to keep it cool inside the enclosure and I got a cover to keep over it when not in use

Sooo got around to tinkering with my TF-100 and although i'm clueless as to managing all this my first moves seemed to move in the right direction.

I'm on day 3 of being full and brushing multiple times a day, if I think about brushing I brush lol.

On start up pool builder put some magic jack in and a jug of muriatic acid in. This was day one.

Day two water is very cloudy with green tint. Put in more muriatic acid to get PH down because it was 7.8. Still no chlorine.

Day three..yesterday. Water still cloudy but I can see the brush in the bottom. Put in another 40oz of muriatic acid because PH was at 8.2. Chlorine pucks are going.

Other samples I ran on day three TA-130, FC-0, CYA-0

This morning when I woke up I checked FC-3-5 range and PH-7.5

This is all using the TF-100. I plan on running all the test this evening when I get home and will update all results. Hoping to have clear water soon. FYI I will be filling up my bleach tank here in the next week and get away from the chlorine pucks.

Sooo I had to add more acid yesterday and up the chlorine puck thingy mabob...Is it normal for the PH to rise daily? Just want to make sure before I keep loading it up with acid. Yesterday ph was at 7.5 in the morning after I added 40oz of muriatic acid (31.45 Hydochloric) and by the time I got home from work it was up to 8.2 again so I added another 40 oz and after a couple hours it was down to 7.8. I did not have time to check this morning before I came into work but i'm sure i'll have to add more acid when I get home today. Also the I am starting to finally see the bottom drain in the 6ft deep end but the water still is hazy. I know its only been 5 days since fill but how long can I expect it to stay foggy like this?

Added some liquid stabilizer yesterday. Pool store told me 2 gallons, tfp app said 1.2 gallons so I went with tfp app. Anyways my results this morning

FC 5.5
TA 110
CH 175
PH 8.2 (added another 1qt of 29% muriatic after test)
CYA 60

Now my CYA was 0 this whole time until I added the stabilizer and now I fear I overshot... anyways I turned off the tab feeder and will be using liquid chlorine from now on. Hoping the rain we are about to get will purge the CYA down.

Water is still cloudy from fresh plaster start up. Anyways any pointers or am I doing things wrong please let me know.

Rain water will dilute the CYA in proportion to the water added (unless you have an overflow, then it's hard to say which water is leaving the pool), so VERY little unless you get a deluge with MANY inches or feet of rain. Which living where you live, hopefully isn't happening any time soon or you poor folks will have flashbacks I'm sure.

You are a little high for a non-SWG pool, but being as far south as you are, really no worries. Just set a little higher target FC per the FC/CYA chart. Also a little harder should you need to SLAM, but you won't. ;)

I would be running my filter 24/7 with the new plaster dust. And making sure to rinse your cartridges when filter pressure rises 25% above your clean filter pressure. If you don't know what your clean pressure was, and haven't already rinsed your cartridges, I would do that soon as they have likely accumulated some good amount of dust. I know that your filter is quite big (a great thing) but startup plaster dust is a one-time non-recurring thing that will cause it to get full/clogged much faster than normal.

Yes we do have an overflow and if I don’t see much improvement over the weekend I’ll drain it down a tad and let it make up. We have an auto fill that discharges into about 2 ft of water away from the overflow

Been reading endlessly about the TF100 CYA test kit results. I'm not set that my CYA was ever 60...This morning I ran it again, I was getting 70... which doesn't seem right because since start up I maybe dissolved 2 chlorine pucks and put in 1.5 gallons of stabilizer (1 gallon raises 10,000 gallons by 32 CYA.) My pool is roughly 15,000 gallons. Anyways later in the day today I re ran the test in full sunlight. I even let the sample water warm up because the water is somewhat cold. At this time I was getting roughly 40-50 cya on multiple tries...I'm still not convinced I know where this CYA is because as I filled the tube my eyes seemed to be playing tricks on me and I could still barely see the black dot after it settled for a few seconds when I didn't think I could see it...

Anyways the pool has drastically cleared up. Keeping the PH around 7.5 and the FC at 5 with liquid chlorine over the last couple days. I just wish I could find a def answer to this CYA.

Again all that was used for CYA in the start up over the last week was 2 chlorine puck and 1.5 gallons of Leslies Conditioner...That is it. The only other chemicals in the pool are muriatic acid and liquid chlorine.

FC-5
CH-175
TA-100 (Down from 130)
PH- 7.5 (Still having to put a little acid in every morning but it seems to respond well)
CC-.5 ? when I run the chlorine drop test and do the CC test afterwards the color goes clear with one drop
CYA ??? 60...70...50...Ah heck I don't know lol

Just had pool school...although didn’t need it thanks to TFP! I still tuned in to everything the gentlemen had to say and he was impressed I was already on the liquid chlorine and not using the tab feeder. Anyways my results today, 8 days since fill.

FC-5
PH-7.2
TA-80
CH-200
CC-.5, one drop and sample clears instantly
CYA-50-80 I’m still all over the place and do not know which to go off of. Anyways I’m sure I’ll get a grip of that test in due time.

Nice looking numbers up there! Keep a close eye on the PH and TA as the PH will try to climb and the TA will do down as you add acid to bring the Ph down. Wait until the PH gets to 7.8 before you knock it down.

CYA test-Too lazy look to see if I have told you my trick so here goes--------GLANCE!!! Not look but GLANCE for the dot. I pour from line to line starting at 100. Pour, GLANCE in. If I see the dot, pour to the next line. GLANCE in, see dot? go to next line until I do not see the dot at a GLANCE. If you look for it you will see it LOL You can do this test over and over again with the same water until you get a solid grasp on it. Pour in and out as much as you need to.

I like the Kim method. Seems solid! Got 50 CYA after 10 times dumping it back. I would fill until 60 and glance and see the dot. Go to 50 and glance and no dot. Thanks! I love the new Saturday morning groove I’m developing

Went to pool store to get some liquid chlorine because it’s not horrible pricing for now. Anyways brought a sample in just to double check my stuff and like everyone says all over TFP their results vary from my TF100 kit. I really was curious to see what they got for my CYA and they did the same test with the black dot thing and the pool store was reading between 50-60 which is what I was getting.

My results vs Leslie’s pool
FC-8........5
PH-7.6.....7.8
CC-0........0
CH-250....140
TA-80.......70
CYA-50....50-60
Phosph....60?
Metals......0

Curious as to why their CH is much lower than what I’m getting.

Also on another note I got my Stenner pump and tank hooked up to my aqua link system and so far I’ve maintained 8 FC for two days! Love that thing. I’ll have to start another thread on that one eventually.

I also wanted to ask to ask about weekly shocking? The pool store mentioned something about shocking weekly once everything is stable. If I’m using the TFP method and water stays clear do I ever need to shock it?

Thanks TFP! Water is pristine!

I also wanted to update the thread with our patio we put by the pool. Hopefully we get our landscaping soon, still battling with pool builder to fix a few issues and unfortunately it has not ended well...lots of broken promises but luckily I have it all in writing so they are bound to it.

Now THAT is some TFP water! So pretty! Love the patio you put in! You will love having that here for dinners out by the pool!

Sorry to hear your PB is pushing back. He has to know it will not end well for him :( Makes me sad when I hear people will not do what they said they would. Here is hoping it will end sooner than later.

It looks so good! I love it when people keep posting pics as they add things. I also love seeing someone learn how to manage beautiful water because it reassures me that I'll be able to do it too. (When my pool is finished in the next decade...)
