New pool and something went wrong today while applying Stonescapes! Crews need to start over!

Having Stonescape installed I was aware of the different phases of the build, however.
Mini Stonescapes was being applied today and next thing I see is crews chipping 2 inches away under the tile at the waterline, around all fixtures, and around tile on steps. The sundeck had a 2sq' section removed looking as they began to chip away but stopped.
Called my contractor and he said something went wrong but he didn't know what, I will see him after the weekend as today is Saturday. My contractor did reassure me the end product will be beautiful.

What should I expect, does all the Stonescape need removed? If they plaster over what they did will it cause a problem in the future?
Out of all the crews and tradesmen building my pool I'd say the crew applying the final product that everyone sees should be more skilled than any, but yet these guys didn't seem so

Sometimes stuff happens. Maybe the pump broke down. Or they realized they had the wrong mix. Give the crew credit that they recognized the problem, stopped, and is fixing it. Some not so good crews might have continued hoping you would not see the problems.

Wait and hear the story from your contractor. You should hear what happened and how he will move forward.

I do suggest you ask him if they will be doing a full chip out? If not press him on it and say that is what you want. This will help you down the road when you need new plaster as they will be able to put it over the original IF you get a full chip out. If you don't get a full chip out now the new plaster will cost more as that crew, who YOU are paying, will have to chip out BOTH plasters from this crew that messed up.

Yea I understand stuff happens and I'm not too concerned as long as the end product looks like it should. And as long as this bad application doesn't cause problems down the road. But I did notice the layer on the sundeck is really thick and if the second application will have to be thinner which in itself cause a problem…….My builder will be here Monday with answers.

I have faith in my contractor and trust him, but a crew/company he has used for 10 years miss judged on material, first time ever they say.
They will cut away under tile line, fixtures, and marking tiles on steps and start over. A bonding agent will be applied to the first application so the second application of Stonescapes will adhere to it. How can I be certain the first layer won't break away from the pool shell, or the second layer won't separate from first layer….

Sigh..............I guess there is always a first time but man it did not have to be YOUR pool!!! GURRRRRRRR

Now is when it is going to get *interesting*............you need a FULL chip out of all of the plaster. Here is the reason why. If down the road many years you want to replaster your pool YOU will have to pay more due to them having to chip out BOTH layers of this plaster from THEIR mess up.

They are trying to take the easy way out for them instead of taking care of you down the road. It is up to if you want to push them on this.

He said they ran out of material. They did not order enough. They started chipping away under the water line tile and around fixtures once they realized shortage. Been told a couple days of cleaning up and chipping away more from under the tile. Then a bonding agent will be applied and they do it again…My builder said this has never happened and has been using this crew for 10 years. Im very upset, but nothing I can do…Worried about integrity of finish will be compromised on longevity but time will tell.

You can do something to insure the integrity of the finish............call them and insist on a full chip out. If they do that there will be no question about it. Your money=your way!
