Ok I’m new to pools. We moved in and few days ago and it looked like this mostly. I figured out how to vac to Adams got rid of most of the back stuff on the bottom. I shocked the pool last night and brushed it. I’m still seeing patches of green. I’ll brush it again tomorrow but I’m not understanding how the algae is still going after 450g of shock in a 30 by 18 pool.

Below are the results from the Taylor kit. Any pointers would be welcomed.

I really wanted to get the kids in it for the long weekend but I’m running out of time.

Free chlorine between 5 and 7.5 (to my eye so I attached the picture)

Total chlorine 5

Bromine (not sure I did it correctly as it seemed the same a free chlorine test) 5

PH needed on drop of R005 to get to 7.4. Then 6 drops of R009 to go red

Calcium took 11 drops of R12 to go blue. Test kit says multiply by 10 so 110

CYA was around 38 looking at the scale.

Thanks

Welcome to TFP! Whenever we see a pool with algae, we refer owners to the SLAM Process page. It's not a one-time shock thing, it's a consistent process of keeping the FC at the proper level based on your current CYA. But you also need the FAS-DPD to accurately do the FC testing at the higher levels. That's key. That addition converts your K-2005 to a K-2006 kit.

But follow the SLAM page with the FAS-DPD and you'll do fine.

Once you confirm your CYA, use the chart below to find the proper SLAM FC level.
