New Owner/Builder Pool in Las Vegas

Glad you turned that frowny face upside down about the gun turrets. Looks great! Not much longer now.

An update - Thinking of trying out for the summer Olympic pool plaster brushing team, wife said I have pretty decent form. So brushed plaster 4x a day for the first three days and most of the plaster dust is gone. Cleaned my filter and a note to others in Vegas, Phoenix etc. if your filter faces the sun, don't try and unscrew the brass bolt on your filter clamp bear handed, I now have three very nice blisters on my fingers from handling it, it was so hot it burned my fingers.

Really liking the quartzscape plaster we went with, it's called blue, so it's basically white with blue and black specks in it. Brushing has done a nice job of exposing it. I took a close-up picture of it on our tanning deck/entry. You'll have to click on it to enlarge to see the detail. Plaster guys did a great job, no mottling that we can see. Also been in touch with us every day checking in on how things are going.

Decided to do my own start-up which included setting-up the skimmers (note, if you have two skimmers, you only need to install one of the equalizers in the skimmer closest to the pump, learn something new every day), started up the equipment, setup my screenlogic automation, brushing, cleaning filters, chemicals. I paid my plumber to come back and install my water temp probe since I didn't want to mess with that. So far so good!

Landscaping should happen this week, we have a big 4th of July/birthday party planned for my 13 yo son. People coming in from out of town and our 4 yo grandson will be coming too. Looking forward to playing with him in the pool.

Pictures were taken right after I brushed so there's a little dust in the water, I'll post some of it totally clear.

It's looking so great! And it's wonderful to see that you're having fun with your pool! I need to hire you to come brush my pool when it's finished! Do you have another trip planned soon for Texas? Ha ha!

Man, your build timing worked out perfectly for the upcoming family celebration! Ya'll are going to have a blast!

Don't forget to post landscaping and party pictures!! Suz.

Into week two of my plaster start-up and now that I'm done with running pump 24/7 I'm curious what the experts recommend in terms of RPM and pump run time. I've had her at 1100 for 12 hours per day. Pool is sparkling clean with the exception of the dirt that falls to the bottom that I brush into the drain ever other day. Also, how long do others have their priming feature set on their VS pumps? I think default is 12 minutes and that seems way too long.

Almost all plaster dust is gone, rarely do I hit a spot on the plaster that stirs-up any dust but I'm still going to continue brushing once a day every other day at least through the end of the week. Looking forward to day 31 when I can throw a cleaner in her.

Landscaping and scupper pots installed this week and we're done!

Here is a link that might help you with your pump run time.

Pool School - Determine Pump Run Time

I just turn mine on when I get up and my husband turns it off when he gets home for the day. I do turn it back on for about 30 mins. in the evening when I add my chlorine.
Thanks, I've read the article before, guess I was hoping for some sort of a calculator, There's one on the Pentair site but it's focused on energy savings not what rpm to gallons of water = pump run time. Seems like it would be a pretty simple calculator to through together.

Right now I'm running 12 hours at 1200 rpm through the end of my break-in period. Then I'll put the salt cell in and pool cleaner and have to change things-up again.

Update - Had to can my landscape guy, it's taken him 5 weeks now to do the very small first phase of my project. We he started after shotcrete and he's still not done. Every day he has an excuse. Guy must not the two final (more expensive) phases of my project. Another local O/B recommended a company that he was happy with and I'm waiting to receive their quote. So unfortunately we'll have no landscaping for our 4th of July/B-day/Pool opening, thank god we have 2,200 sq ft of decking huh LOL.

Pot scuppers are being delivered today and guys should be here tomorrow to install, once their in pool phase is DONE!

It's been a bit of a challenge getting chlorine level up in this sun. My CYA hasn't quite taken over yet, hopefully soon as this Vegas sun is burning through chlorine at a rapid clip.

Got all our deck/pool umbrellas purchased, a few more patio chairs, trying to find some affordable chaise lounge chairs for our raised decking, a couple new deck boxes, new presentable outdoor garbage can and of course wife had to have all new towels for the pool. The post pool costs are adding-up fast.

I'll update pictures once pot scuppers and sheer decent are up and running.

Of course, pots get here and guy who was going to install them tomorrow tells me he's going out of town tonight and didn't know they were going out of town when he told me he'd come install tomorrow. Un-real. Scrambling to find someone to install prior to our guests arriving on Friday.

Worse comes to worse I'll cutout cardboard circles, place them around the plumbing to protect my spray deck and we'll place the pots over them. Spoke to my plumber and he said I can still run my sheer decent even if my pots aren't installed, just need to turn valves closed that he installed to control flow to the pots.

So no landscaping and not pots . . . at least we have water and cold beer though.

Phase one or should I say the 2015 landscaping is complete. Had yard graded, 14 palms planted and 20 tons of decorative rock laid. Haven't seen it yet as I'm traveling returning this afternoon, I've requested no pictures be sent to me, want to see it in person.

They're coming out to install the water pots tomorrow morning and we're DONE! Pools been done for three weeks and the yard has been killing us, nice pool, dirt yard. Looking forward to seeing it, will post final pictures tomorrow.

Came home and liked what I saw until I started looking at my brand new expensive decking. The picture is the worst of the damage but I probably had at least 20 spots where they gouged, scratched and otherwise damaged my decking. I understood there could be a couple of scratches but this is ridiculous. They actually took out shotcrete on the pictured area, the tiles are 1 x 2 to give you a little perspective of this. I could not figure out how this happened as they were using a bob cat to move things around and much of the damage is "inside" my decking. Found out they ended-up using day laborers to move the decorative rock around in wheel barrows. Don't want to get into an immigration discussion here, but I will say a day labor isn't going to give a &*@! about the home owners property, they don't work for the landscaping company, it's not like they'd get fired for damaging the property. We did this while we were out of town based on the commitment from the company that they were perfectionists (and a reference who told me the same), so very disappointing . . .

They're here installing the pots now, I'll post some pictures of the completed phase I of our project after their installed and running!
