The wood expanded lengthwise then? Did you leave much room for expansion on the ends?

Tight? That's a crime when working with wood?
We don't really have to deal with huge humidity swings where I am but you still have to leave room for expansion. Because of that I've switched to using foam core products and haven't looked back. The moldings and trim look just like wood but are straighter and stay that way regardless of the conditions
With T&G my buddy always fits tight cause he said it will run away from you with weather changes if you don’t. I thought the same thing as you. Yes there are spaces in corners and top and bottom but the fitting of each piece is tight.
I just went to test the ph of a pool my builder finished Thursday. Super blue like mine. It was crazy to see it fresh before all the brushing brought out the quartz. If I didn’t know I would think it was a different finish even. A lot smoother with all the cream. I hope they r brushing though!
Ph was good in range. They had the bubblers on full blast so I turned those off and got the returns to not cut the water to help that rise. Cause same company plastered thier pool so they don’t use much acid when cleaning before fill. And none for startup.

Well we repaired my walls and ceiling this week from the buckling due to humidity this summer. 9 hrs later I’m repairing what looks like a gang war shoot out from nails. We ended up face nailing up and down to try and prevent more movement down the road. We waited few months to fix to make sure the space we made allowed for the other boards to expand as much as possible. I had 2 inches of expansion in the ceiling over 12 feet. In the bathroom some boards expanded 5/16 th of an inch. That’s nits for those who don’t know. So we will see I’m not repainting or even repairing the kitchen ceiling yet. All I did so far was repair all the nail holes and sanded everyrhing down. Humidity is done for a few days here and then back up a bit this week so we will see after we have another cold to hot and back spell.
Brian the boards expanded that much. The wood was so dry from the mill I guess and then when our humidity hit even after the wood sat outside for 2 weeks the boards grew that much. Think about it. So the math. 6 inch boards. 5/16 th of and inch increase we measured an a few boards across 12 feet. Hard to believe but it did.
What do you think. The boards expanded from the humidity. We did the reinstall literally on the worse day humidity wise this summer. Wood can only expand so much. A 1x6 can’t become a 1x8. It can only suck in so much. Even though sealed also all over. 2 coats.
So what happens when things dry out then? You're going to have half inch gaps between the boards?

My buddy doesn’t think they are going to shrink back that much. It’s a toss up. Nothing you can really do. It’s wood. You know you can’t really control it when it’s outside. I’m thinking that’s why a lot of these hgtv shows do it the fake way and don’t do it with a t&g and just bump the boards with a gap and paint the wall behind.
It's too late now but I wonder if you would have been better off going with Fypon or a product like that
I thought about it. Who knew the building would hold so much moisture and be so humid. I was going to go the fake wood like the rest of my porches bit I just wanted that real wood ceiling with white beams and shiplap look for the building.

I figured I would post cause I have stuff going on. So over the winter my wood shifted again. In a new area this time. It’s crazy how much this wood is expanding. So the fix was face nailing everything. So I had a ton of nail holes to fill in with putty. My buddy mixed me various colors to match all the diff color variation in the wood. Results were perfect. Can’t see a hole. So I think we r good now. If it moves again I’m ripping it out. Lol
I’m also finally getting my topsoil in around the pool house and side of my house to get it back together. I worked through a full triaxle of dirt and I’m waiting on my next load. It’s hard. All being moved by wheel barrel cause of all the pipes. No room for a machine.
other than that fishing my head off since u can’t do anything else and I’m working 3 days a week now.

Finished the first load with my father today. He can still run circles around me and he is 79. I was dragging and he was still going. Maybe if I had eaten todAy I would have been more energetic.
Second load is coming tomorrow. Once we get done behind the pool house it will be easy from there. A lot left but no building up slopes. Just dump and fill dump and fill.

There’s more to this story. Is food that scarce up your way? Or just leaving plenty for your elders? I have heard though that if you eat three squares a day all of the wood in your pool house ceiling will shrink.
