New Northeastern Pa Build

Thanks guys for the info I appreciate it very much. I think she is waiting too cause of all the concrete dust still out there and mess from us doing the pavers. I think it is the push to get the pavers done first.

Regarding CYA. I did it outside today. I am deff somewhere in that 20-30 range. I def can't see the dot if i do the look away thing and outside. It's a very weird test. I can put money on it that I am somewhere in that range, but I'll wait till this weekend to do it again.

Yeah.... That CYA test is not one of my favorites. We have a very neutral relationship now. I don't say much to it, and it doesn't give me too much grief. Lol!

You sound more confident after this last test. It will get better, but the other tests are more straightforward.

Have fun tomorrow!

I put water in the pool on July 1 and we were in it on July 4 as well as short periods almost every day since. However, I do commend you for taking precautions...

i finished programming screen logic. Took a little and a call to Pentair but they gave me a crash course and I got it working decent. showed me some tweaks on the panel for my pump and also the app. my priming time on the panel was 20 mins from the factory! that was one issue.

i have 4 circuits right now.

1. Break in: pump speed (2350 rpm) what i'm running 24/7
2. Cleaning: pump speed (3100) to give me more suction
3. my lights
4. heater: 2600 rpm can't try this one yet cause can't run heater yet, but they explained that it should ramp the pump up to a set speed to be more efficient when heating and then when heater shuts off it goes back to the pool filter speed.

right now things are working as they should.

oh i put the app on the apple watch. i'm a big mac geek. i have been since the 80's. never owned a windows computer i can say. have used them for programming cause i have no choice. my wife got me a watch when it first came out. it's pretty useless overall. lol but the app for pentair is kinda lame. pretty pool carryover of the idevice app.

that's where i'm at. no schedules yet. i'm not going there just yet.

today's reading at 7:30 AM. this was the first reading since 5:30 the night before.

Temp: 82
CSI: .09
PH: 7.8
FC: 3.5
TA: 80
CH: 250
CYA: 25

Questions:

1. min reading required for TA is 80. Should I bump it up to about 100 again since I'm at the bottom of the required reading.
2. did cya again. it is dead half way between 20-30. it is defy to 30. so is it 25? should I add more maybe or keep it there since i can't ramp up FC yet? min required for diamond write is 30.

Thanks!

Jim

picked some beans today. coming in quick! i'm lazy. i don't do pole beans like most of my family has done. i only do bush style. way easier!

Your levels look good to me! Tell your dad he did a great job yesterday while ya'll were gone!!

1. I'd leave the TA alone. It's in the range, so good enuff!

2. CYA: I was told to give multiple of 10's for the CYA readings. Someone else will have to explain why.
It won't hurt to add a little more CYA. In PoolMath with your numbers, it says to add 14oz to go from a CYA of 25 to 30. Double check for yourself.

Your beans look heavenly!!! And the zucchini - one of my favorites! I can't grow vegetables for anything, but I make a killer zucchini soup - great cold or hot.

Is the testing, etc getting a little more comfortable? Are you beginning to know some of the answers to your questions before anyone else answers? It looks like it! You're doing great!

Enjoy the fresh veggies!

Hey suz! My mom did them then. You should have seen my garage. She had a kneeling pad, goggles, gloves. Lol. For the chlorine. Hate to see what she would have had for the acid.

Im deff feeling more comfortable.

My my biggest problem is thinking ranges. I get all panicked if a number gets almost outside a range.

And i hate the cya test! Lol

so right now my cya is 30 then? Maybe I will add more but not too much cause I don't want it to jump and I then can't match it with the proper chlorine amount cause of break in.

My grandmothers zucchini soup soup is very old world that my wife now makes. Literally wAter and zucchini in a pot with a little garlic and a little tomato sauce to "give it color" like she used to say. You would think it would be bland but it's actually sweet. So weird. No idea why it happens but when u cool it it gets sweet.

Way to go MOM!!! She's a wise woman - safety first. For the acid? Maybe she would have rented a hazmat suit!!! Pass along my kudos to her for the amazing work yesterday.

Good, I'm glad the testing is coming easier now. Ranges = good. They give you a safety zone. You'd really be panicked if you had to hit a single number target.

You and me both on the CYA test. As I said, that test and I don't chat much. It's strictly a civil relationship!

I like your thinking on whether or not to add a little CYA. It won't go down all by itself. See..... you're already taking charge. Excellent!

I bet your grandmother made her own tomato sauce, too! I'm definitely going to try that version of zucchini soup. I'm crazy for garlic! So eat it cool or cold?

Always hot. Let me ask my wife if there was anything else when she gets home. I'll PM you all the details. It's very easy!

Ya both grandmothers had their own sauce. funny thing. one set of grandparents were from southern italy the other northern. so both their sauces were totally diff. northern italy was typical basil meat based sauce. whole tomatoes and such. my southern Sicilian grandmother's sauce was mint based. ya they use mint down there for everything. her meatballs had mint in it too. my wife knows how t make both grandmother's sauces so when we want one vs the other it's nice cause they are so diff.

my mom can't make her own mom's sauce cause when she married my dad he only wanted his mom's, even though she likes my mom's mom's sauce. lol but my wife luckily learned how to make my mom's mom's sauce before she passed so it's safe wit the family. my mom taught my wife my other grandmother's sauce cause she never met her since she had already passed before we met.

Hey guys,

Suz already knows but I kinda went rogue today. lol

My TA was down to 70 this AM and I know my CYA is not 30. It's closer to 25.

Sooooo

I added baking soda to take my TA back into range. I also have some CYA "walking the plank" to get it over 30. I'm shooting for 35. So I added to go from 25 to 35.

I just was worried I wasn't in that 30 range and above.

So I just tested. 6 hrs later:

PH: 7.4 it's actually in range for the first time ever after multiple hours!
FC: 2.5
CC: 0
TA: 90
CH: 300
CSI: -0.16
temp: 81

so. . . Suz, Kim, and pooldv. . .

comments. . . did I just go rogue or was i being creative in a correct way?

thanks!

Good job Jim...I have started to make my own decisions and like you look to the experts to see if I did good or not. We/I am so new to this that its a little scary but the only way to learn is to just do it. I follow your lead on lots of things so trust me when I say you are not alone...

There is your grade!!!!

You did good!

Kim:kim:

thanks kim! never got a gold star in school! wasn't a good test taker. :(

thats man! you might not want to listen to me. a year ago i thought a return was a skimmer cause it brought water back to the pump! i don't even know what i though the name of an actual return was! i have never learned so much in such a short period of time on the internet. and it's all because this group has some of the smartest and most concerned to help others I have ever seen.

i wish i could give everyone here a gold star like kim did for me, but i stink at computer stuff like that! i still use keys to make a smile face!
