Live in Southwest Missouri, just outside Branson, MO. Just built a new house, and while building had an ICF in ground pool built with a liner. We just got the pool completed this week, and are looking forward to a summer of swimming with our two young boys. I am brand new to pool ownership, and look forward to learning from all of you the best way to affordably maintain our pool. It is a small-midsized pool at about 14K gallons. We opted not to go the saltwater route due to having an auto cover and not wanting to worry about corrosion. I've already ordered a full Taylor test kit and will complete my first round of testing once received. We jump started the pool with a couple gallons of Liquid Chlorine once full, and have an inline chlorinator running on a variable speed pump. We also have a heat pump/chiller on the way, I hope to have it installed within a month.

My first question is what is everyone doing for VSP pump timing. Should I run on low 24/7 with a few hours of medium/high for cleaning?

Welcome to TFP! You may wish to reconsider the salt thing as the salinity level in our residential pools is minimal, only what is needed for the generator to create free chlorine. Corrosion is typically a side effect from low pH and/or poor materials form the factory. But be sure to look over our Pool Care Basics for lots of great articles which will expand on that subject and some others too. Remember the tablets increase CYA, so keep an eye on that too.

Run the VSP on a low setting as long as you like for good water surface skimming or an other accessory needs. Lower is better which it comes to saving $$$. There's an article on pump run time on the Pool Care Basics as well.

Enjoy the forum! :swim:

Thanks for this information. I may reconsider salt next year as I don't want to spend the money this summer
