New Member, First Build...What have we gotten into?

Some people are just never happy. First, you complain when they don't come to do any work. Then, when they do show up, you complain about how they destroy your property. Sheeesh. ;-)

Hey, at least it's progress. (I'll leave it up to you to decide if it's forward progress or not!)

I wonder if these subs realize these careless mistakes come out of some ones pay check ... usually their own. When they were building my pool the excavators laid all the fence posts up against my house and all throughout the construction process all different subs were scraping up against the back of my house with equipment and tools, and bumping into the fence posts which scraped it up even more. By the time they were done, PB needed to repair and repaint a good portion of my siding.

This is a photo of the project manager hitting the corner of the pavilion (and chipping it) with the "grande" bobcat. Actually, he had already hit it once. I hadn't meant to get this shot, I just wanted to take a picture so I could post something tonight - and it happened while I was taking the photo. He did come tell us "I hit the corner of the pavilion, so we are going to have to fix that"

Untitled by Ranger_Bob, on Flickr

The grande bobcat was used most of the day to pull fill dirt from our front pastures where the water company did pipe work and work on cutting the swale while the poquito bobcat moved the dirt from the back of the trailer to wherever it needed to go.

Believe it or not, there is progress. Sprinklers are in, grading is coming along. I pointed to Jay's neat yard and said, "I want this!"

LOL!! This reminds me of when my mom backed out of my garage one day and hit my full size truck. Her first words were "I looked before I backed up and didn't see it!" I was like, it's not a Smart car, its a 6000lb dark blue full size truck! How did you not see it?" lol. She has a small Ford Focus too. Sadly, it damaged her car more.

Since we're mentioning dumb stuff; a guy at work a few years back had a good garage story. Apparently his side of the garage worked fine when he left for work. His wife was leaving a few hours later. Her side didn't work. His did. She pulled the Austin Powers 87 point turn and went out his side of the garage, and almost totalled her car. It's a shame she didn't know what that little rope was for. :)

It's not his fault. That thing just jumped out in front of him. The light from the flash was in his eyes. He wasn't even there. The clutch slipped. The throttle got stuck wide open. He had it in reverse. You are lucky he was there to stop it when he did.

Karen how weird is it that you took that picture RIGHT then! Did he know you saw it before he came to tell you about it?

How much time and money do they lose doing dumb stuff like that?

Kim

I'm betting he never would have even mentioned it if there weren't someone standing there with a camera pointed at him LMFAO!!!

In this case, the driver of the bobcat was the project manager (direct employee of the pool company). Although, with as many "re-do's" that have happened on our project - I can't imagine that it's overly profitable for them at this point - perhaps a reason it's taking so long.... I am not sure if he saw me take the picture (or if the flash is what blinded him and caused him to hit the pavilion) but the minute he saw Bob walk up to the house from the workshop - he let him know. The project manager is also the person who has pointed out more things to fix then what we would have pointed out to fix, so I'll give him that (although that big ugly stone in the right arch isn't fixed yet...)

We won't mention how I forgot to put the SUV in park before jumping out of it to "save the dogs" while at the same time talking on the phone to Bob saying "quick come out to the garage the dogs are loose" and just as he opens the house to garage door - the SUV crashes into the wall...Better yet, when I went to work the next day and decided to admit my idiocy - found out that apparently its very common to forget to put your car in park as two guys from work did a similar thing.

Jimbo, Please stop...WHAT has gotten into you?? You have been so funny lately :) Do these things just pop into your brain or do you have to pause for a minute for the clever witticism?

Karen, Between Jimbo, Jay, Glock, zcat, Richard and a few others we have all of the entertainment the internet can handle in the best place ever TFP!

If only there was some way we could all really get together. The world as we know it would never be the same! That laughter alone would cause the earth to quake! LOL

I think this forum is very nice, with so many great interactions and so many great stories...... But Karen, your project manager bumping into your Pavilion probably tops all the good stories on this forum.... I hope the damage is easily repairable. I am excited for you about being at the end point. Be sure to show us a lot of pictures! BTW, my plaster with the ablone shells turned out to be beautiful.... I wished I added more, but I was determined to not to be charged another up charge, so I just got what the plaster formula called for, not more. So, if you like bling bling, be sure to add as much as you want to!

If you hold back on anything you might want to avoid more charges ( doesn't appear that you have) you will likely regret it real soon after it's done and all that pb angst starts to fade. What might be a couple hundred extra bucks now will be thousands or not even possible later.
Just an opinion. No jokes today Karen. Better? Lol

I wish I could afford a bigger pool but I'm happy with what I've got.

Of course you can join the pool crawl - we can start south at Martin's then hit Jay's (and others) in Houston, hit Eva's in LA, then back to Austin, get to CC's (and Zethacat's if he invites people) and then probably best to go East to Two Labs then we can end up on New Years Eve at ours - where we will have our chefs friends waiting with their choice of dishes. We may need a bus.

Count us in! You're all welcome at our house too! I look forward to crawling and seeing all of your pools! If it helps, I make a mean, fresh salsa!

Calling all TFP brethren - need your thoughts and opinions (I know, I didn't really need to preface with that)...

Project Manager says plaster is tomorrow. They will come out, clean the pool again (third time) and start plaster tomorrow. Bob and Project Manager will be onsite and Bob is ready to check product type (Stonescapes Mini Pebble black with abalone) and dye lots. The next part is where I need input and I am researching. project Manager said they will finish plaster tomorrow and not fill it. They will come back in 3 days and dye it because we chose the black color and then acid wash it and then fill it. 3 days after that they will come back and start it up.

What concerns me in those statements in the concept of dyeing the black. I have not heard this anywhere related to the stonescapes black. Of course, this isnt a overly used color so the research may be limited but it sounds too close to when the PB was mentioning dyeing the diamond brite and then we all nixed that idea. I am fine between the plaster and delay in fill. Not sure about the delay in startup / brushing (brushing wasn't discussed). I know our fill water has high ph > 8.2 (i have to look at my notebook for other numbers) but seem to think they were generally in line. Hoping the acid wash helps with ph

We might need to sell tickets - this is going to be n awesome pool crawl tour

DYE it? AFTER it is applied? As in spray "dye" (paint???) on the plaster? THEN acid wash it as in spray acid ON the newly applied dye that was put on top of the plaster??

Hummmmmmmmmm okay then BUT won't the dye cover the pretty abalone?

I think I would have to call the makers of your plaster and ask them if this is what should be done. It just does not compute at all!

I can see maybe mixing the dye into the plaster IF that is called for to get the black you are looking for.

Just what flashed though my mind when I read your post.

Kim

Maybe you can call a few plastering company? To ask about their opinion? Just like my PB said not to worry about sealing the leuder stone coping and deck, even though we have a salt water pool. I asked around, spoke with many people who work with leuder and pool everyday, they all recommend sealing the stone.... Anyhow, personally, I do not see how they can come back and dye the plaster. Why not call NPT directly? The local show room people maybe a to answer your question.

I think I will call NPT directly. My challenge is that I will be on a flight first thing in the morning and I won't land until late morning Central (Texas) time. But my conversation with the Project Manager this afternoon did not give me the warm and fuzzies.

The project manager and landscape crew were out working today so as they were wrapping up, I walked outside to where he and Bob were talking (the dreaded "here comes the wife" moment) and said, <PM name insert here> - "Did Bob tell you I had a lot of questions about the plaster? What is this about dyeing the stonescapes again 3 days later? Is it because we chose the black? First he said, let me show you as he pulled out his phone and then said, "Oh I only have the finished picture here (which was very nice of a black stonescapes job). Then I think he got confused between Stonescapes and plaster and he back tracked several times and then told me all Stonescapes colors are done that way and I said "really? I'm on a pool forum and I specifically know and have seen the Stonescapes color such as Tropics Blue get sprayed on with the color and they didn't have to go back and dye it" Then he hemmed and hawed a bit. I followed up to say - "You realize this is very important to me - right? You are going to be here supervising. Out of everything that has been done on this pool - this is when I most want you here. Out of all the redo's this one will be nearly impossible to redo if it's done wrong. I am making myself clear right?"

Then we talked about brushing and he said we should start brushing right after the fill. Then we showed him the whale brush which he hasn't seen and he thought it was ingenious and began taking photos of it so he could show other people....

So for the heck of it - my fill water readings:
