That looks like a fantastic design and setting with the hillside you describe! One thing that I did notice is the lack of benches in the pool. Definitely a nice size tanning ledge (and super recessed area), but we certainly enjoy having benches in the water throughout our largish pool. But given the details you already considered, and substantial time spent designing it, I'm guessing you are quite happy with the layout by now.

Where will tables and chairs go around the pool? It is also nice to be able set back a bit from the action and take in the view, all the while also staying away from the splashes.

We'd love to see a few before pics of the backyard to get a feel for the setting!

Great points! We are considering adding some benches. Just pondering where to put them. Our out of water relaxation area will be the recessed area and table/chairs under the deck which will tie into the pool. Backyard before pictures coming soon!

If the house patio is on the south end - those two pool lights are going to shine right into your eyes.....might as well add in-pool bar stools to the sunken firepit area.

Good point on the lights, I will see what other options we have for placing the lights. We thought about the built in pool bar stools but that area will be our mini lap lane so didn't want the stools to be in the way. Going to get some of the removable Envy Underwater pool stools!

Look at the Pentair Intellicenter which recently came out instead of the ET8.

Will check it out!

Any thoughts on depth given the design? We are currently slated for 4ft - 6ft however are considering 4ft - 5ft. The big debate is based on the fact that 6ft is over our head but not deep enough to dive, etc. Yes that area can be used with floats but not sure if we want to render that section unusable for most. Can anyone speak from experience?

Well look at this! You have a solid design there! This is going to be fun to watch!

For the depth-what do you see doing in the pool? Do you have any children at home? While you are thinking about this take a tape measure out and see where 5' hits the adults in the house. I am 5'5" and 5' depth would not be good for me as the water will hit me around my mouth area. NOT fun. Also make sure all talk of depth is WATER depth. It should be measured from the bottom of the pool to half way up the face of the skimmer. SOME pb will do it from the bottom of the pool to the bottom of the coping so..............that is quite a bit of difference.

I think there is enough floor area in the pool that the pool depth should vary a bit so that people of different heights can find the area that works best for them.

I would not customize a pool specifically for my families height. You will have visitors of all sizes and shapes and handicaps. A good design will have areas that can accommodate children up to tall adults.

Our pool is 6’ at the deepest and it’s where the kids play and adults float. Kind of annoying our small pool. In fact our 4’ shallow end is the neglected area.

So you find that your 6 foot section actually gets used?

Nice house and nice layout.
1). It appears your plan has the pool down grade. If so, how are they addressing rain runoff?
2). If you and family like volleyball and other water sports, consider the shallow pool depths.

Thanks! Yes pool is down grade on the retaining wall side. Yard will be graded to run most of the runoff to the back of the lot and down.

Let the MUD begin!!!

Now here is your first "job" for the build. Run out with the plans and a tape measure. Is it wide, deep, long, etc enough? Add about 8" for steel, gunite, and plaster. NOW is the time to tweak or fix.

What is the rectangle hole to the left of the pool?

Have you played on the mud mountain yet???? That looks so fun!!! BUT make sure you wear clothes you can throw away when you are done!
