New house, New-to-me pool, new adventure!

This is what I'm working with...

Looks older but manageable...

Also several sets of blue hose and two extendable poles.

Okay. Don't love the net but it can do for now. New ones have a plastic ring around the edges so it scoops off the bottom better. You can use that now to get some of the bigger gunk off the bottom. The flat net is for skimming gunk off the surface of the water. The three heads on the right are for vacuuming, but you can't do that until the water is up and the pump is on. The flat round plate is also for vacuuming. It's called a skimmer plate.

Ok.... Plan:

Fill pool to at least halfway up skimmer.

Use net/buy new one to begin scooping gunk from bottom.

Once filled, begin opening process for pool and see about pump and filter working.

Questions:
Can I do anything with pump and filter now before turning it on? I.e. Inspecting anything, checking filter and sand, etc?

Might be good to review this page: Pool School - Opening Your Winterized Above Ground Pool. Make sure you understand the operation of your filter. If you've never use a sand filter before, watch a couple YouTube videos. :) Once the water level is good, you may end-up doing an occasional "vacuum to waste" so that you don't clog-up your filter with junk all at once. So makes sure you know where your waste water will travel. Have plenty of bleach on-hand. :)

Hey they left some good stuff for you!

First thing-learn about your filter- there are videos to show how it works look at several to find the one that looks the most like yours. I LOVE my sand filter and am very glad you have one so I can help you with it! Tip 1-make sure you move the handle in the same direction every time you move it. I go clockwise just because that works for me. Pick one direction and make sure everyone that might mess with it do the same.

Once you have water and you know your equipment works we will talk about how to vacuum.

It takes a village? [emoji23]

LOL yeah we do tend to do that............we each have our own way so want to make sure you get the info you need.

-Filter- I was just thinking it would NOT hurt for you to open it up and do a deep clean of the sand. We would hate for you have done all of this work and the sand has clumped or channeled :( Here is a link:

There is a "spider" gasket under the lever. It can get bound up if you turn the level back and forth. We have found it lasts longer if the lever is turned one way. This is another example of the wonderful ways of TFP. Years of experience and "real life testing" being shared for the good of all.

Thanks, I've been going back and forth... I will change my evil ways! ;-)

I was planning on opening it up as I am a visual learner... I like to see how things work. I was that kid who broke small electronic things because I wanted to know what the insides were... I'm a little more careful nowadays.

It looks as though they changed the sand within the past year or two, there's a small pile outside the pool shed. That's an assumption though.

The flea market was my parent's best fiend for me........."BUT how does it work??" They would go buy one for me to take apart to see. The toaster was the first one I remember.........I HAD to know how it "popped" the bread back up! I think I was around 6 at the time.

My poor husband had a lot of learning to do about my being over his shoulder asking "what is that and what does it do?" He has learned to just start talking when we are doing something new. It must be working since we have been married for 31 years LOL

You can use a shop vac if you want to go all the way to taking the sand out. I put it in my wheel barrow so I do not have to bend down so far to pick it back up to put it back in.

I am totally excited for you lol really doesn't appear as bad as it could have!!! I have that kreepy crawler vacuum and it does good.. I plug it in the skimmer about 2x a week :)

Could you be so kind as to give him the info for it so he can look up the manual for it?

Kim :cat:

I wish I could :( I didn't even know what it was called until I saw a pic with the name while doing a search for vacuum types lol

Once I take the solar cover off today for swimming (about an hour), I will hook it up and put pics up to show how it looks together and going...

Right now its all laid out across the back fence lol
