New house, New-to-me pool, new adventure!

Quick update:

As we are getting settled in, I am noticing the pool turn a nastier shade of yuck green. I'm not upset about it, but I know I have my work cut out for me...

I am planning on taking the day off on Friday and focusing on the pool (and Marian no less!)

What's my game plan? Once the other kids are off to school and my wife gets all settled in with Marian.... I'm on the pool. (It was her idea!)

I do plan on doing the following prior to Friday

- check sand in filter and determine need to deep clean or just a good backwash

- locate and get an inventory of all chemicals I currently have and likelihood of them being useable.

- READ UP on opening the pool, SLAM procedures, and studying up on my test kit.

Anything else I can specifically do? I hope you'll all be with me on Friday to get this soupy green mess a kick in the frog legs!! (The frogs are making babies now... [emoji43])

**humorous side statement**
I had to explain to the kids that they couldn't play with the ones that are holding on to each other because there is a slimy goo that is gross coming out of them and it would be "yucky" to touch. I'm happy it ended there!

Teach the kids to play leap frog! That should wear them out!

Good plan for before and Friday day off. The MOST important part of the SLAM is M=maintain as in maintain the FC at or just above the SLAM level.

I would go ahead and take a water sample and see where it is at. It may change some when the pump is running but it will be close enough for the SLAM.

Ribbit!

No steps in my pool... [emoji847]

I was considering hanging the submersible in the shallow end and routing the hose back into the water to stir it... Take a few scoops along the bottom to mix all the yummy stuff up. Maybe as early as today, it's nice out. We shall see!

Correct me if I'm wrong but there isn't any easy way to get this valve off without cutting PVC is there?

Greetings all!

Oh how happy I am to have found this forum. I have been visiting religiously for about a month now reading for upwards of 1-2 hours a day, much of it on Pool School and through the other "new pool owner" type of threads. I feel like I am coming along nicely with learning about pool chemistry and understanding how a pool operates.

To admit my "noobiness" with pools... I have never owned, nor lived at, a home that had a pool in it other than the $6 plastic ones you throw away at the end of the season, in my 30+ years of life. Well all that is about to change in a matter of days! We are moving into our new home over this week and staring at us with wishful, yet cautious, glee is our new to us pool. I've updated my signature with the information of what I know and have pictures (linked below) to prove with.

Basically I'm looking for TFP's help with understanding my pool. I want to know, from you, that I know what I should know, to know how to operate this pool.

Anyways I'll link some pictures of the basic layout of the pool, the mechanicals, and finally many of the wonderful chemicals the previous owners used (from what i have read so far, I feel like I have some work ahead of me!)

First, the location of the pool in all of its closed and covered glory

It just dawned on me. This pool looks awfully familiar. It seems like a broker or agent joined the site last year asking how to clean up a pool, and I PROMISE I really think this is the same pool! I may be crazy (pretty sure I am) but even the shed, the neighbors house, and the back of your house give me that Déjà Vu feeling!

Most people put their filter on waste right away to get out as much as they can. In your case, you have bigger fish to fry... The Anti-freeze won't hurt you and will disappear pretty quick from the water. It does cause a slight chlorine demand until it's gone, but again, if it's anti-freeze, don't worry too much about it this year. Let's get the plumbing fixed. I can't help with that beyond what's already been said.
