Howdy all,
Bee guy here with a pool that was replastered 2 yrs ago.

Been using advice of Leslie’s and wasn’t getting the results I desired. Found this wonderful site and am now interested in going a whole different direction with maintenance

Here’s my latest test

Cl 3
Br 6
Bl 7.2
Alk 30
Cya over 100 ppm
Hardness over 3000 ppm

I’ve gone through the recommended links but I seemed to have missed quantities of each item to add

It also looks like I need todo atleast a partial refill since cya is so high

Hola Jinxed
How are you testing your water?? Do you have your own test kit yet? We're all happy to help you but we all need to speak the same language and using one of the recommended test kits assures that.
Test Kits Compared

We use PoolMath to tell us how much of a chemical we should use. You have to input some basic info to personalize it for YOUR pool- size, type of pool, how you chlorinnate, etc.

Here are some helpful links-

Here's proof our way works and costs a fraction of what pool stores will sell you --> How Clear is TFP Clear?

Excellent. Thank you

Using a hth 6 way test kit for now

Hi Jinxed! Maddie did all of the heavy lifting as far as what do to get started so I will just say you got the kit that at least got you started on the right path. I am sure you have found you are about out of the CYA test regents.

How does your water look?

Yes I am. Maybe one test left, so I’ll be looking into the recommended test kits

Pool is slightly cloudy but not leaning any colors at this time

So using the pool calculator app it said to add 2 gallons and a cup of liquid chlorine
I added that today and here are my latest tests

Tc-5
Ph-7.5
Brom-10
TA-160
Cya-stopped at 150
Hardness - well over 600

At this point is draining my only option?. My cya seemed unfazed by the 2 gallons of lc

Yup.... you won't be able to keep up with CYA that high.

In your neck of the woods water is often hard. Keeping your pH on the low side, and your CSI negative (per PoolMath) will help you avoid some scale.

Chlorine does not lower CYA.

Maddie :flower:
p.s. ignore Bromine... you don't have a Br. pool.

Since water is scarce here I’m thinking 50% drain/refill then slam it?
Or what’s the most efficient process?

Thank you

For now do NOTHING till the kit arrives. Maybe a gallon or two of pure chlorine but do yourself a favor and wait because you're going at it before you really know what you've got going on. Since water is so scarce and precious you want only one shot at it. Please keep asking...

@wireform he was able to test his CYA as the HTH 6 way does have the CYA test. He can start his drain/refill now while he waits for his other test kit.

Now @Jinxed13 if you can find a RO company (reverse osmosis) you could use them to remove the CYA. I will leave it to you to look over the cost of the RO vs replacing the water in your area.

Just keep your FC up as much as you can with the liquid chlorine. The cloudy water is telling you there is an algae bloom about to start. Keep ahead of it to make your life easier down the road!
