new filter recommendations?

Hello, my sand filter started leaking like a sieve from the bottom.

I have received these quotes for a new filter. The numbers include removing the old filter and installing the new one.

I don't know what is best for my pool and if the prices make sense. Also, I'm not familiar with cartridge filters--from what I've read, some people say there is more maintenance with cartridge filters while others say there is very little maintenance.

1. New Pentair sand filter and backwash valve: 1440
2. New Waterway 425 sq ft cartridge filter: 1225
3. New Waterway 525 sq ft cartridge filter: 1360

Recommendations?

In our climate, with water restrictions, cost, etc, the use of cartridge filter, the largest you can afford and have space for, is what I would suggest. Should be able to clean it once per year, but might be two times since you use a suction side cleaner.

Did you check the bottom drain plug to determine it wasn't the cause of leaking?

I also vote for a large cartridge filter. I have the Pentair CCP-520.

The bigger the filter the less often you will need to clean it.
