New FB pool install - hollow sound underneath?

Hello - I recently had a FB pool installed. It has a flat shallow end and then a ramp down to the deep end. After they first installed I noticed a 'hollow' sound/low spot in the shallow end approaching the ramp edge, and also the ramp edge itself sounding hollow. It's almost as if the drop-off is a bump and it's a little lower as you approach is in the shallow end - with uneven fill underneath. The pool was supposedly installed over gravel (saw them dumping a lot). I asked the installer about it and they said 'it's normal and will settle over time'. It's a been a couple weeks and I don't notice much of a difference. Wondering how concerned I should be. I didn't expect low spots and hollow sounds under the pool.

I suspect to some degree it's inevitable. My pool was placed on a sand base and backfilled with sand. That was before I knew better. Anyways, I watched them pack the sand under the pool sides, benches, and steps, fill with water, pack, and repeat over & over. Still, you can hear a few hollow spots. Mine are typically around the steps and maybe under a bench in an area or two. I figured there was no way around it with settling over time. As long as there isn't any unusual flex in the shell you should be okay. You can always check the installation instructions or contact the maker of your pool to be sure.

Thanks Tex. Yah I guess it's only a small deal if the pool integrity holds. Still it was compacted gravel fill (which shouldn't move like sand) so seems like they could have done a better job. Not the first quality issue I'm dealing with.

My PB apparently has recognized that there is an inherent problem with trying to pack fill under stairs or other features that result in a hollow area under that FG pool feature. I watched them install a basement floor jack under the stair feature to support it, set on virgin ground, before filling and packing around it. Surprising that I never see that technique mentioned in regard to this settling issue.
