New EVO 614i Robot Pool Cleaner Review

Thanks just ordered the 614IQ. Much cheaper price on Leslie's than on Amazon. Didn't see an option for the extra fine filter basket. I'll give it go without that for a while.
Marina pool and spa out of Colorado sells parts including the baskets. Parts unlike the robots can be ordered via website in addition to phone/email

Hi all... Based on this thread, I bought the iq model, finally hooked it up to the WiFi (which I was amazed reached the back yard with no extender), and really loved the rise feature where it expels all the water before you lift it out.

Anyway, in the middle of it running yesterday, we got an unexpected rainstorm. I wasn't so sure about the control panel being in the rain, as well as the snap-in connection to the cord. So I ran out and brought it back in the house. I'm thinking I should maybe buy a deck box or something that will keep the rain off the control panel and plug. As I assume the rest of it can just deal with the rain, since all the other parts sit under water anyway.

Am I worrying too much about this? Or do you think this is prudent to do? Alternatively, I could just bring it in the house, but I worry about unclipping and re-clipping the cable too much, as I read from some of you where that might be one of the weak points of this machine.

This is our first pool (above ground) and this plus the betta have been keeping it in great shape.

I was concerned as well so I have mine in a case from harbor freight on my home built caddy.

It gets warm so I usually leave it open unless it's raining/expected to rain

rm,

I too would not leave the power supply outside in any direct rain...

I do not really like the cheap connector on the robot side of the cable... I leave mine connected to the power supply all the time, just because it just looks like a failure point..

Thanks,

Just got the robot and the fine filter today. I’m looking at the filter included in the robot and the fine filter and I can’t tell any difference between the two. Is the fine filter already included?
Look along the side under the lip. Imprinted along there should be 3 sets of squares with an arrow pointing at 1. Size of the squares indicates coarse vs fine.

There is a picture somewhere in this thread of what I'm talking about but don't remember who posted it.

Edit: It was @Jimrahbe

So is this thing actually made by Polaris? It’s odd that I don’t see that name attached to it anywhere except on Marina’s site. Not sure it really matters but curious all the same. Honestly I cannot comprehend how this industry supports so many different brand and models, but that’s also probably why there is little to no support for any of them.

Anyway I suspect this will be the replacement for my S300i, but I have seen comments about not leaving the power supply exposed to the elements. I will scan back through this thread from a PC later but curious if anyone can provide a pic of it so I can visualize the concern. Living on the Gulf Coast it’s not uncommon to have pop up showers daily, so our robot and the dolly/power supply get freshwater rinses frequently. Guess I’ll have to come up with some other plan for this one should I grab it.

02,

See item 12 in post number 1, for a pic..

It appears to me the power supply is water resistant, but I doubt it is water proof...

I doubt a rain shower will cause any issues, but I used to live in Florida, and we had plenty of rain that came down in bucket loads... :)

My power supply is outside, but under the roof eve, so it might get a little wet, but it is not exposed to massive amounts of water..

I just think it would be a good idea that if the power supply were left out in the open, that it would be better off with some kind of protection.

I 'think' that Jandy, Polaris, Aqua Products (EVO) are all owned by the same company... Fluidra.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Ha, well that’s too easy! I did see that pic and at least in that perspective it doesn’t look much worse (or better) that my Dolphin power supply which has lived exposed to the elements for 4.5 years now. But yeah, even though mine has seemingly survived fine, probably a smart play to do more to protect it or its replacement going forward. And yep, where I am in Alabama we get lots of snow those same bucket loads of rain you’re familiar with!

Thanks for the response.
