New Build Wylie, TX

Yeah, it's cute when your wife says it. But how old are your kids? They might like that make out area too before you know it!!! So thoughtful of you to have that for them.

Those are probably the same/similar LED string lights we have. They are awesome!

Haha Exactly what I said about the kids! They are 10 and 9 so we have a little while longer but I may have to install a spot light for that area in a couple years.

LED lights have come a long way! I already had incandescent lights on the covered patio and was going to just add more then I saw these at Home Depot. They look just as pretty as the incandescent ones but you do not have to change bulbs and 4 strands use just a little more power than one 60 watt bulb.

I will have to look at my Home Depot for those lights. Do you still have the box they came in? Do you recall how much they cost and how long each strand is?

Yes I saw that on another build and thought it was a great idea and would be perfect in the area close to where this is. I wish I would have thought of that during the build would have been super easy to do. Of course my yard is still torn up pretty well may not be to hard to add.

Hind sight is always 20/20 :)

I look at your pool each time and think that, we should have added the Raised wall on the back with sheer descent. I'm not sure whether we can add it now or not, as they r re-coping that particular wall to fix some issue. I guess since plumbing is done so, its not possible now. We need to stop looking at other builds and ideas :)

Ok so first off I ordered my TFTest Kit (I know I know should have ordered earlier). As directed by the PB we took a sample of our water to the pool supply store. They said we need to add calcium but from what I have seen this is not correct. As instructed we added pucks (I know we eventually will switch to liquid just following their instructions on the start up) last night tested this morning and looks to be at 2.0. We are monitoring PH and adding muriatic acid as needed. The test kit they gave me only test CL and PH and the pool store seems to give me contradicting info or at least I think it is. They also mentioned adding stabilizer? Anyway as soon as I get my test kit I will post results.

Good day Mcow! Have you discovered PoolMath yet? It is a great tool and critical to understanding your next move (chemical add). The most important thing is to watch the CSI calculation at the bottom. Balance all others to their suggested range but keep an eye on the CSI. pH, TA, CH, CYA, Temp, Borates, Salt all influence the CSI calculation.

FC of 2.0 is fine as you have 0 CYA at startup. Actually 0.5 is perfect. The sun will eat up 3-4ppm/day here so the pucks are good for now and should be consumed at approx. 1 per day. Each 3" Tri-Chlor puck is 8 oz and, per PoolMath with 13,000 gallon pool, will create 4.2ppm FC/day. Also, each puck will add 2.6ppm CYA so keep good track of the number of pucks you are consuming so when you go to add your stabilizer you have a calculated (not measured) starting point.

I assume you are running your pump 24x7?

My offer is still open to come over and get some baseline measurements so we have something to guide you on. Getting the TA and CH readings are important to understand your actual CSI.

Correct running pump 24/7 currently. So when do I need to add stabilizer? I just added the first pucks yesterday afternoon was told to wait 48 hours from startup to add CL.

I would consult with your PB on the stabilizer add as I am far from the expert on pool startup and don't hold the warranty card. I went 10 days with tabs only before I added the stabilizer and moved to liquid chlorine. This started my CYA @ 33ppm before adding stabilizer (I missed this point and ended up adding too much stabilizer). If you still have tabs and are running the pump 24x7, it might be wise to use them a few more days to allow stabilizer add via the tabs. Keep in mind a couple of points:
1) Using tabs is upping your stabilizer (CYA) 2.6ppm/tab. @1 tab/day = 26ppm after 10 days.
2) As the CYA goes up so does the minimum FC requirement per this chart: Pool School - Chlorine / CYA Chart
3) When you add the stabilizer you should be done with tabs and begin liquid CL adds only to keep your CYA under control and at a recommended level, probably towards 50 in our area (without SWG). Pool School - Recommended Levels

BTW: Sachse Walmart had very fresh store brand chlorine (8.25%) last week 17-212 (212th day of 2017). Murphy Lowes has 10% CL but it is a couple of months old and sits outside. I found through trial and error it was actually only 8.25% (based on PoolMath and measured results). If you haven't read on here, CL degrades over time, and rapidly degrades when exposed to heat and sun. I am using about 1/2 gallon/day in my 12,000 gallon pool with 10 hours of sun.

Ok yeah this is pretty much exactly what my PB told us to do but the Leslie's guy wanted me to add stabilizer right away.

Oh and the PB came out and put sod down today! Of course exactly as I thought we would be they were one pallet short. I think I am just going to do the last pallet my self it is crazy expensive through the PB.

Well you have been on this site long enough to know to stop going to the pool store. You just proved the point. They just wanted you to buy something. And you can get stabilizer @ Walmart/HD/Lowes etc when and if the time is right.

PB should have quoted for the job not sq. ft. His measurement error should not impact your cost. IMHO.

Yes no doubt on the pool store. I was just following the PB's instructions to go get the water tested. Yeah on the sod the sales guy estimated 2 pallets and that is what we paid for. They have made some other concessions so I am willing to live with it. It was like $500/pallet I think from them which didn't seem as bad buried in the yard prep part of the contract but I can buy it for around $200 plus some sweat to get installed (maybe some beer to bribe the neighbors).

I use A1 Grass in Plano. Show up on Saturday early AM and get some fresh sod. Be aware that a pallet of grass will squat a 1/2 ton more than you may like..... Get those rear tires to max inflation before hand and drive real slow.

We had 4 pallets of sod added into our quote too. We didn't want to have to mess with installing it. And we paid $450/pallet. I'm seeing that we probably overpaid as well, but I'm glad that we will have most of the work done for us. My husband doesn't think that 4 pallets will be enough since the huge back hoe killed all the yard in its path, lol. We thought they would come in with a bobcat, but we forewarned our PB that we had LOTS of rock in our yard, so he came prepared with the big rig right away :).

Yep that is where I plan to get it tomorrow morning. Good to know on the weight!

I honestly had no idea the sales guy said you usually need 2 pallets and we said ok. I was not prepared at all for the amount of destruction the yard went through. That is pretty much the going rate for sod installed. I called a couple places that install it and all were right around that cost. I don't mind doing one pallet myself wouldn't want to do more than that though.

One pallet at 100 degrees with high humidity....... yep you will have a fun filled day. At least you can jump in the pool and cool off. Maybe stop by the "labor store" @ Parker Dart station and get some cheap help?

lol I already talked myself out of doing it tomorrow. They only charge $60 for delivery may be worth it. I didn't realize a pallet of sod weighs 2000 pounds. Not sure I want to risk that in my 1/2 ton truck and doing it in two trips seems like a beating.
