Congrats on the new pool! Looks nice. :goodjob: Since your pool details don't show any form of chlorination other than the inline tab feeder, make sure to read our ABCs of Pool Water Chemistry and the links below in my signature. You don't have an SWG (salt water generator) so you'll be adding chlorine (aka regular bleach) manually. Tabs increase CYA too high over time, and the ozone product really doesn't do much for you with an outdoor pool. If you have any questions, just ask. Congrats again, and post pics of the build progress. Nice to have you with us on the forum.

The build has been going on for about 2 weeks now. My wife and I just had a baby, so I haven't been able to update until now. We figured what better time to start a big construction project, right?

Just before Christmas, they marked out the yard for excavation.

Our dogs thought they'd help out with some of the excavation, but they didn't stay in the lines too well. Luckily, that area will be decking when it's all done.

Thanks for the info!

One question I have is on the cleaner. Right now, we have a Hayward Aquanaut 450 suction cleaner in our contract. I've been reading in the cleaners section of the forums there are new Dolphin robot(s) possibly coming out next year. Would it make more sense for me to switch to a currently available robot model, or is the suction cleaner good enough? Or should I go with the suction cleaner until the new robots come out?

There seems to be a growing trend towards robots lately as opposed to suction/pressure-driven cleaners. The quality of robots has improved dramatically and they use less energy compared to pump-driven cleaners. But if your pool is already contracted for a suction cleaner, I suppose that will be part of your installation. Then you have the option to use it or purchase a robot cleaner later. Then you'll have two cleaning options. That's two more than me. :)

Looking good Brian. Earlier I was at work and our server wouldn't let me see some of the pics. It's getting there. The fur kids must be wondering why you get to dig such a big hole, but if they dig a hole they get in trouble. :) At least I always think that's what my dogs (six of them) are wondering when I'm doing something like that. :)

It really is looking great. I like the color of the bricks for your house. The pool is going to look great back there. Maytronics does seem to put out a new upgraded robot every year but a lot of the upgrades have been minor. You would be fine with the aquanaut in the beginning until you find the robot that works best for you.
