New Build - Pearland (S. Houston)

You have been busy. Are the open pipes for the ozone system?
I'm not quite sure yet. I usually leave before workers show up and the plumbers were gone before I made it home that day. I haven't had a chance to follow up with my PM, but I'll ask him about those open pipes this week. The electricians just wired up in the blower for the spa today, but didn't plumb it in. I'm not sure where that usually ties into the system.

Stone and tile crew were working the last two weeks. They had the coping and most of the waterline tile laid, before we were able to notice that they had used the wrong waterline tile. We had picked out a blue porcelain tile in a 1"x2" mosaic design, but for some reason they used a 1"x1" tile mosaic. I informed the PB of the error and they were working yesterday to change out the tile, but looks like they wound up short on tile, as they left about a 4 ft section unfinished. They also wound up a few stones short on the waterfall/jumping ledge, but those were delivered yesterday as well. Hopefully they are able to finish up on Monday so that we can move on to decking and plaster.

That is a pretty tile right there. Was the other tile at least the same color but the wrong size? Too bad you didn't see it was wrong before they got so far along. Hoping they can get the rest of the correct tile fast!

Thank you. It was a tough choice and we weren't exactly sure how it would look. Now that it's in the pool and we can see it in the sunlight and with the other stone, we feel good about the selection.

Yes it was the same color and style tile, but in a 1"x1". The problem though is that in a smaller tile you don't get the full effect of the color pattern, and actually looked much darker compared to the 1"x2".

They had done all of the waterline in the pool when we noticed the issue and actually we were considering sticking with the 1"x1", but asked them to go ahead and do the spa in 1"x2" so we could compare the two. After seeing the difference of the 1"x2" we decided to have them replace it all. Was a shame to have to have them redo it all, but the PB didn't hesitate to make the fix.

We've been dealing with wet weather and scheduling delays, but we finally got all of the stone and tile work finished and had the decking poured on Thursday. Clean up crew came out yesterday and cleaned and graded the work site, and threw out a layer of sand. We should be on the home stretch at this point, just need our cool deck and plaster. Given the upcoming holidays and our travel plans those are going to be pushed back until after Thanksgiving.

I did order and receive my TF-100 test kit and ran a set of tests on our tap water. Based on what I've read, all the numbers seem to fall in the normal range:
FC-0.5
CC-0.5
TC-1.0
pH-7.7
CH-150
TA-210

I've started looking into pool robots, and talked to Margaret at Marina Pools last week. After doing some research, I think I'll be pulling the trigger on the Dolphin M400 here pretty soon. Given the number of benches, stairs, and bar stools, along with our deep end and size of the pool, Margaret thinks we'd be better suited with one of the premium line of robots. Any feedback on this robot would be great.

That is looking AWESOME!!!

Make sure to read this: Pool Plaster tips for the Average Homeowner to make sure the air temps are going to be purrfect for your plaster.

Thanks for the reading material.

The tile crew just finished a few minor touch ups and we had our pre-plaster inspection and are now finally schedule for plaster on Monday!!!

I am watching the weather closely, though. We should be in the upper 70's on plaster day, with a cold front pushing through later that evening, which means a line of showers is likely for Monday night. Should this be a concern, given the chance for water pooling in the deepend? An acid wash and filling of the pool is scheduled for Tuesday.

The rain could cause some streaking and if it is real hard and runs down the slope to the deep end it could cause some channeling in the new plaster.
That's sort of what I was thinking, but given that this would before the acid wash, I wasn't sure if it would be as big of an issue. I don't think the rain is expected to be anything too significant.

The M400 is a great bot. Was a holdout for many years of an old pressure side cleaner. Finally caved and bought this bot and kick myself for not doing it many years ago. Pool is so much cleaner. I would say even if I had to replace it every year I’d do it because it’s that incredible. Good choice!

So its been a while since my last update, as things moved slowly this past month due to weather and the holidays. We did finally get plaster and decking, and have since filled the pool (Dec. 12th). We are just waiting on a few final details, the biggest being getting the gas company come out to upgrade the gas meter so we can heat this sucker up! I was fortunate to be off work these past two weeks to finish up most of the landscaping, which worked out great considering all of the plaster brushing that was needed. In the end, everything is looking great, and we are all very excited to be able to finally jump in once it heats up.

I've been using the pool math app, which is great by the way, and my current test results are as follows:

FC - 3.5
pH- 7.5
TA - 140
CH - 250
CYA - 30
CSI - -0.16
