I have 3 acres so putting the pool farther from the house wasn't a problem. The pool side of the house has a large brick patio for people to gather. There is a large grass play space between the patio and the pool apron. That side of the pool apron is narrow with just enough room to walk around the pool. The ends of the pool and the far side of the pool have much wider seating areas. That way if you are at the pool you are looking toward the house and vice versa. I can have a large group at the house and a large group sitting at the pool and nobody has their backs to the other group. It also puts the kids play space between both sets of adults. The pool is probably 40' from the house.

My 14x48 Bestway is going to be about 5' from the house and 3' from the property line in our side yard. We're putting it there to take advantage of the existing privacy fence. I called the city of Bremen and they consider Intex-like pools to be toys and temporary structures; the guy said I could put it on my roof if I wanted, they're so unregulated.

We have friends that wish they put the pool closer to the house so they would use it more and enjoy the view of it more. We could have placed ours anywhere in the back 3 acres, but chose very close to the house just for that reason. There is nothing better then to be able to walk right out the back door and be in the pool in a few steps and be able to enjoy the view from the windows in the back of the house. Not to mention being able to grill up dinner right next to the pool as the kids swim. Ours is 20'. This gave enough room for a small upper patio and then enough space to get proper drainage in the patio from the upper patio stairs to the pool. As well as being far enough so I am not tempted to try the high dive off the roof... :)

This is my thoughts exactly.

Keep the pool close enough to encourage people to use it.

Connect the pool to the back of the house with a patio or deck this helps keep dirt and grass out of the pool. It also helps keep dripping wet kids out of the house if they have a solid surface to dry off on.

If you make it easy to use, it will get used a lot for many years to come.
If the pool is difficult or awkward to get to overtime people will just not use it as much and maintenance on the pool becomes that much more of a hassel which then leads to water quality issues or equipment problems.

Our kit was finally delivered yesterday! Now the question has become where to place the pump and heater. We have a covered overhang on our shop but it will be 55 ft from the pool. The other option is beside our house, but that is where I planned to pour sidewalk to lead to our garage, back porch, and deck. Help! And does backwashing make a muddy mess?

Agree. That overhang looks like it was custom made for your pool equipment. Straight runs do little to add resistance to plumbing lines.

Same! We went with the vinyl pool 18x34, sports bottom, 3.5’ -5.5’ - 4’ with large 10’ roman steps at each end. Our builder is 3 months behind due to all the rain here for the last several months. I am hoping things get moving along next week :)

Awesome! Sounds like a great setup! I'm with you on the rain... UGH.. It seemed like every stinking weekend for the last two months it has rained... We finally got ours up and is filling. Son in law is working on electric today and will work on plumbing this weekend. Deck is forthcoming... Lots of work, but it will be worth it! Proud for you guys!

@Chastiti - how's your progress? I love seeing other pools similar to ours in style - layout, etc. I know this thread is old, but thought I'd take a chance and check in.
