Decided to start my own thread, as I am being new to this, having many questions and I hope I find answers here. So, please bear with me if similar issues were already discussed on this forum already... I am trying to read up as much as I can.

Longs story short, I am about to begin building my home at a relatively remote off-grid location, which alone pose its own challenges. Now add an infinity pool supported by a massive retaining wall, 10m tall on the tall end, 5m on the other.

The pool will be of rectangular shape, half being a swim lane and the other half is a seating area with a recessed dry seating area in the middle. Sized 14.4m (L) x 5.5m (W) x 0.9-1.5m (D), will feature a 3hp main circulating pump and a 1.5hp massage jet pump. Will use a properly sized sand filter and 2 1/2" piping. Auto level maintenance and re-fill, controlled by two level switches. Pool volume is calculated to be ~80.1m3, infinity reservoir at ~4.8m3.

Not sure about the finish yet, I like pebbles, but cost seems substantially more than mosaic tiles. Supply is scarce, I most like will travel myself to bring back most of the building materiel needed.

Going to list the PROS first:
- located on a truly private land, there are no building regulations and no permits needed
- own steady, clean water source ( 10 gpm well )
- concrete and basic materiel is cheap and easy to come by
- land survey and ground testing already done by a reputable company
- structural assessment and design is currently underway by another reputable company
- cheap (though unskilled) labor is readily available
- steady hot weather year around, no need to worry about cold-hot expansion issues, frost damage and other things
- upkeep and maintenance is very affordable

Now to the CONS:
- remote location
- there's no professional company nearby who could undertake the pool building, it has to be DIY under my supervision and hired unskilled labor
- the architectural company will supply the required structural specs, but no pool details
- located at a high ridge, not sure (as of now) if heavy equipment as cement mixers and pumps could access the property
- massive retaining wall needed ($$$) , being in a seismic area
- there's no gunite contractor, AFAIK around here
- have to deal with relatively high evaporation given the hot climate and infinity design, so must minimize leakage as much as possible
- most of the building project is DIY with hired labor, I have built a few houses before, but never did anything extensive like this
- probably many more I can't think of right now o_O

Anyways I will attach some designs and a simplified plumbing schematic here, fell free to dissect it and voice your concerns and I am open to hear any ideas you might have, building is set to commence in about two months form now, so is still room to make changes.

Given your lack of skills for rebar and gunite and limitations of getting heavy equipment to your site have you considered building your pool out of other materials?

Concrete block and tile....

ICF Isolated Concrete Form....

How many gallons do you plan the pool to be? A 10 GPM well may take a long time to fill a pool.

I think you need a separate pump to circulate water from the trough to the pool from the pump to circulate water through the filter and returns.

Avoiding the Pitfalls of Vanishing-Edge Pool Construction

@setsailsoon is currently designing a pool with an overflow edge and may be helpful.

Note that pH control will become an issue with the overflow edge as it will create aeration which causes pH to rapidly rise.

@Flying Tivo is in Mexico and built his pool and may have advice on some of the challenges you will have.

I am skilled with rebars, as I said I am not sure if I can bring heavy equipment to the site, but most likely will be able to work something out. It has to be reinforced concrete construction, given parts of it are structural to the the whole build. There will be beams connecting the retaining wall to the house foundation, the pool sitting on top. Soon as I have the plans I'll post it here.

Pool Engineering is who I use and if anyone can help you in regards to steel placement they are the ones.
No “pool details“ is this in regards to notes like return line placement, lights, skimmer(s) and equipment?
Having never done something this extensive and using unskilled labor will have its challenges but it can be done.

So that explains why the pools in Mexican resorts are mosaic tile... In the US mosaic tile is gobs more money than plaster and even pebbletech.

Point to note. Based on your renderings, the sitting area adjacent to the dry sitting area is going to be between 45 and 60 mm deep, a depth which you will most likely float out of your chair!
