Hi everyone,

I am purchasing a new above ground pool, 16x48. I am trying to figure out what I need to get the water going and started. Do I have to wait to fill it up first then test it to figure out what I need? I am wanting to use liquid chlorine. Do you recommend shocking it as soon as the water is in?

Thank you!

Hey HCH and Welcome !!!

Yes and no. We know you'll need chlorine. Grab a couple gallons of pool essentials chlorinating liquid in the Walmart pool aisle. There will be a code on the bottle that says 25xxxxxx. It's the year (2025) and the day # it was made. You want the highest day # so it's fresh. Today is day 57 so if made today it would say 25 057 xxxxxxx. Do simple 30 day month math in the aisle, no need to be exact. Day 57 is dang near 2 months (end of Feb). Close enough.

Also grab a 4 lb bag of chlorox stabilizer / conditioner (Cyanuric Acid) while you're there.

The rest need testing, which you can do with your tap water before hand and report back.

Sweet! Thank you for the quick reply! I will for sure get those items. I have the Taylor K-2006 being delivered this weekend so I will report back with those numbers then!

Crud. You want the k2006*C*. The K2006 is too small. Its 2.7 times smaller than the TF100 from tftestkits.net for the same money.

The K2006C is the same price as the Tfpro from tftestkits.net and the TFpro comes with better allocations of supplies for how we do things and also a $45 stirrer that is a must have.

In short, either TF kit whoops the Taylor equivalent. If you can send it back, please do.

That all said, they all use the same reagents so it totally works if we have to use it. :)

Ah okay. I just purchased the TFPro 😁 Thank you!!

I had the TF100 and while entirely functional, it was a mess and frustrating always hunting for bottles because it didn't all fit in a nice way. I appreciate the organization of the TFpro each and every time I open it. Ya did good. (y)

Refills go on sale each March for mid $40s, so the kit is a one time investment for all the parts and much easier to swallow year over year.
