Never cleaned before will this work

Finally started the process connected up and have some suction tried to sink the whole cleaner hose and it’s still floating pump is running

I’m attaching pictures of the cleaner and pictures of the pump
The hose is supposed to float.
That hose looks to be compromised, some sections have what looks to be a permanent curve in them. When they are pulled apart, each section should be straight. If they aren't, likely the whole hose was coiled when removed from the pool for storage, even temporarily, like when the pool is in use. Even a short time in the Sun will cause the hose to do that and it will not straighten out, no matter what you do.

Those hoses need to be replaced. They were probably stored wrapped up for a time.
Always store them straight never coiled up they get memory in them and cannot return to being straight.

Hi pool man is it the one below which needs moving 180 degrees
180 will shut off the skimmer/maindrain. With the system running, turn it clockwise until the cleaner starts to move and continue to adjust until it moves the way it needs to to clean. Likely, the handle pointing to about 7 or 8 o'clock will work. May need to go to 10 or 11 o'clock position but you should never shut the skimmer off completely.

Morning trying it out and the value goes anti clockwise I moved it to 9pm then 6pm and cleaner isn’t moving yet any ideas the skimmer to main drain is open. Also see below

First picture (1697) shows all the suction shut off, no flow, that's bad for the pump. The handle points to the open port. With the handle pointing to the "cleaner" line, all suction should be coming from the pool cleaner and, if it is working, its should start to move. If nothing else, something could be stuck in the throat of the cleaner stopping it from working.

If the diaphragm is good, all flow from the cleaner line, and no movement it could be a dirty filter or clogged basket. Or, with all the bubbles in one of the pictures, the hose for the cleaner could have a crack or a section not completely put together allowing the pump to pull air.

That's actually a bypass setting, the water is just being circulated but not filtered, nothing more. Hayward just gave it a fancy name.

Thanks poolman, the skimmer basket is clean it moved once then stopped I’m getting upto 20psi in the filter guage, I was watching videos on back washing as I don’t know the history when it was either last cleaned of the dirt readded. Am I right to assume a backwash doesn’t hurt anything ? Also can I dump the back wash on my grass or is there something special thanks again apologize for imposing on your Sunday

You may also need to purge the hose before connecting it to the wall socket. Here's how: get the pool pump running so you have good flow out of the pool returns. Then grab the hose end that connects to the wall outlet and hold it up against the flowing pool return until the bubbles at the other end of hose stop. Now cover the hose end with your palm inorder not to let air in and take it immediately to the wall socket and plug it in. Now go rearrange the pool valves for optimum vacuum and let it run.

Is this a D.E. filter? It looks like one. If so, a backwash onto a lawn is OK, but messy and you don't want to do it too much as the DE, when it dries, can cause problems. It also may not be legal in your area as some require that it go into the sanitary sewer. You will then need to add D.E. back into the filter before use as you will not filter properly without it and can damage the grids.
If you don't have any DE, you may want to look into using cellulose fiber filter media instead. It is a superior product. You can research its use online.

I haven’t back washed at all as now the cleaner is cleaning but I’m sure after this I’ll have to clean. It out, can I drain it into a Home Depot bucket if I’m cleaning the filters in place then I’ll look at the cellulose fiber filters also for future. I will for now reads the DE until I have some more spends, any ideas how much I would need to add to my skimmer after cleaning, attaching a pool diagram IMG_1577.png
