Hi friends, gonna be adding some CYA. I haven’t done this before but know the drill with granulated. However I would like to use these remaining tabs I have from a year ago. Anyone see any problems? For some reason my CYA measured between 20-30 today which is so weird because I haven’t done any draining and I didn’t think it wore off that fast with sun.
Also going to add some chlorine right away- just did a full test battery.

Thanks everyone. I am going to start using them tomorrow since I just added chlorine. My plan is to use 1 tab (0.5 lbs) at a time so that I can have my FC and PH in range.
I thought about adjusting my PH today with MA, but since the tab will affect PH anyway and cause it to decrease, I plan to leave that as is and see how it goes.

Since my Cya is 20-30, my plan is to use these Trichlor tabs until I’ve used 8 overall which per pool math should increase my CYA about 18.

Just a thought...but If you purchased those tabs before prices sky rocketed, I'd save them for when they're needed for vacations. To replace them later when you need them, is going to cost a pretty penny. That is, if you're only using them to use them. Probably cheaper to buy cya granules.

Does anyone know how long it takes a Trichlor puck to dissolve? Mine has been sitting in floater barely dissolving for like 2 full days. I manually added chlorine yesterday after seeing that it was going so slow.

Depends. Water temperature, how close to a return they are, etc.

Tie it off so it is close to a pool return.

In my limited experience, pretty slowly. I recently went on a trip for 4 days and floated 3 tabs with the vents fully open. I'd estimate only about 25%-30% dissolved. That's with water temps around 90.

That sounds about right. I moved it closer to the water fall so maybe that will make a difference.
