My 400,000 btu natural gas Laars/Teledyne is dead. Any suggestions or recommendations for a replacement? I only use the heater to heat the spa.

Comments on the first estimate? Is Jandy OK?

"The total cost for Jandy JXiQ is $4866.18 installed. These heaters are 400k BTU and will maintain temperatures up to 104 degrees. The increase you will see in gas/electricity use is dependent on frequency of use, but these are the most efficient models on the market."

Heaters are a commodity. Pentair, Hayward, Jandy, Raypak heaters all show up here with problems. Get the a 400K if you get any size.

The Jandy is fine, and like the Pentair MasterTemp is an induced draft design with a blower. The blowers can be noisy. Jandy is a more compact cube shape than the Raypak, so if footprint is important, this should be a consideration.

Raypak heaters are natural draft units with a more traditional vertical design with a bit less complexity. We continue to recommend Raypak heaters. It’s not a forced-air type heater but more like a water heater with a burner tray. So there are fewer moving parts and they tend to be less expensive to repair. Raypak is a Rheem company and you can get sales and service outside of the pool equipment channels and markups, which may be a benefit to you.

There is not much transparency to Jandy pricing as they don't sell directly to consumers. OffBook pricing seems to be around 3500-4000, so you are looking at $866 or so for install. As to pricing, the best bet is to get a couple quotes and compare.
