Need to replace Pentair Motor

I have a Hayward 425 Cartridge filter with a Pentair superflo 1.5hp single speed pump motor. The motor died and I replaced it with an off brand of the exact same thing. Within a day it sounded like a jet engine about to explode.
Two people I’ve consulted say I need to up either the horsepower or the volts or both.
Not sure what to do now ??????

Which motor did you use as a replacement? A picture of the rating plate (of both if possible) would help. What voltage are you using now?

That's the proper motor B2854V1, but not the one in the description, B2852 which is a higher, 1.875 THP. Old motor was 1.65THP. New one the same. Probably a bad motor. Made in Thailand now, who would have guessed. Seems every time they change the manufacturing location, from Mexico to China and now Thailand, there are issues with quality. In California we haven't seen those motors for a while as they are illegal here.

Motors that can be wired 120 or 240 always come wired for 240 because it is safer.

If you apply 120 to a motor wired 240, the motor will be less likely to be damaged than applying 240 to a motor wired 120.

The manufacturer always sets to 240 for a dual voltage motor.

Maybe a mistake at the manufacturer or maybe the motor was used previously, sent back and the seller resold it after taking it back.
