Hello all,

Looking for some advice. My installer is a part-time installer/part-time commercial pilot. He did some work for us a number of years ago and we were quite happy with the work, but 6 years ago, he did a complete rebuild on our 12x28 inground pool to expand it to 18x28 with an integrated spa. Not to get into too many details about all the mistakes that happened, I'm now looking to fix his plumbing mistake with regard to the chlorinator. Now for most of you the look of this chlorinator might be odd, and that's because it's a Water Maid chlorinator made in Australia, and according to him, it's the best in breed. He plumbed it on the outflow from the heater which I found from reading the installation manuals is incorrect, it should be plumbed into the inflow to the heater. The body of the cell is supposed to be clear and has fogged over due to the heat of the water. Since the spa and the pool share the same equipment, it's important that I'm able to see the inside of the cell to know if there is any buildup on the plates. Anyway to make a long story short, can someone have a look at the picture and suggest the best way to re-plumb this and keep the whole setup looking neat? Thanks in advance!

Michael,

All saltwater generators are connected to the output side of the heater. (Edit.. After the heater does not mean right at the heater. )

What problems are you having?

Thanks,

Jim R.

As is proper, the WaterMaid installation manual shows the salt cell as the last item (after the heater) in the system before the pool. You never want to run chlorine directly into a heater. Seems a bit close to the heater. The manual says it needs to be 5 feet (1.5 meters) from the heater. Your pad may not have had that much room.

Thanks for the feedback; greatly appreciated. I guess I'll leave it as is then. Kinda sucks that the material has clouded over but at least it is installed as it should be just maybe a little too close to the heater. Thanks again!
