Need second opinion please

Quick update. I have not used the polyfill yet but pool seems to be getting better. It was a bit cloudy pool guy said free chlorine level was a bit low (due to after we used AA to clean steps apparently). He adjusted the level and today seems clear. I am keeping the culator still on skimmer which i know you mentioned apparently does not help but is fair for me to mention. If in the next few days gets green again i will use poly. Anyway the whole thing is so weird. Its like iron comes and goes and comes back

I have one more detail to share. I noticed in the corner of the pool a rusted piece. I tried to capture a picture. You can also see the liner being more stained near this rusted stain. Does anyone know if the liner or inside the liner there is metal (iron) that hold something? Because if so the stain might be due to this piece? Any opinion?

We have it in the house not outside. I was just wondering if a rust piece inside the pool like i tried to capture in the pic could be the cause of the stains

Quick update. The water has actually been great but liner and steps are stained. I used some AA to clean but after a few days it comes back. Weird that i dont see any issue on water itself but just liner-steps. Any opinion is appreciated.

Hi again, i came accross a product called Purple stuff to clean stains. I tried to read about it here but the problems were different than mine. I wonder if anyone would recommend for iron stains and if after use it filters need cleaning. Thanks!

Yes, Jack’s Purple Stuff is for scale and copper staining, not iron staining.

There is no better treatment for iron stains then AA. But once AA gets the iron in solution you either need to keep it there constantly using a sequestrant or drain and refill with iron free water.

Thank you. I guess then i will do AA when i open it next year as the chlorine level has to be low, then sequestrant then filter cleaning then hoping all ok. The weird thing vs last year is that my only issue this year are the stains while water is crystal clear, last year water was brownish…

Hello, i have posted in other threads the iron issue i had last year. This year is way better in the sense that water is perfectly clear however the liner is all stained. My pool guy has no solutions. Any suggestion? Thank you

If it is Iron stains...

This is a diy forum so that’s what all the advice is geared towards- caring for your own pool.
I am sure you could pay someone but they may not do it exactly as directed in the article.
Depending upon your pool size the chemicals needed to accomplish the AA treatment (Ascorbic acid & sequestrant) might cost around $60 bucks or so.
They are things you just pour in & follow the process as outlined.

The problem with iron is that it is easily removed, but it is also easily oxidized right back to a stain as soon as the chlorine goes back to normal.

You might have anywhere from an hour to a month of no stains before the stains return.

Thanks, so what do you recommend to solve the problem?
Do you know the source of your iron/metals?
Something rusty in the pool?
Well water?
Are you certain it is iron? You can test this by crushing up some vitamin C pills in a sock & rubbing the stain. If it goes away it’s iron, if not or it changes to a different color it may be copper or something else.
