Need help with Pool valve

We have a fresh water pool and the skimmer basket closer to the filter was full. Some pool technicians came by identify and cleared the basket. Since the oxidising plate was covered with calcium buildup, they left the plate in diluted HCL solution and closed this valve. They asked me to open the valve when we put the plates back in.

This is the valve and the technician asked me to turn this to the right. The valve lifts up but does not move to the left or right. Did I misunderstand the technician's advice? Should I be doing something else? Any help would really be appreciated. I don't want to spend $100 to get a technician to just turn the valve at the same time I don't want to break it as well.

S,

I have never seen that specific valve before, but it appears to be a standard diverter valve..

It appears to me that you need to push the narrow end down, which will lift the wide end up, allowing you to turn valve left or right and open the water's path through the pipe coming from the pump.

Try that and see what happens..

Please let us know what you find...

Thanks,

Jim R.

Thank you Jim,

That's what we thought so and tried that several times. We pushed the narrow end down and the wide end lifts up but it doesn't seem to move left or right. I will try it one more time this evening.

Thanks,

Hi Jim,

I have tried it again this evening, it does not seem to budge. All I can do is push the narrow end down. I am going to try some lubricant to see if it helps. Any other suggestions are welcome.

Thanks,
Sujatha

I believe it’s a Spa-Quip value but pretty standard. Just as Jim suggested, push the narrow part of the handle (long end) down and rotate 90 degrees. If that’s not working there could be something broken and you’ll need to get the tech’s back again.
