Need help opening pool

Ignore the pool store! We do not recommend Floc treatments.

Raise PH and your FC.
Try to lower CYA with partial drains and refills.

Because test strips are not reliable for testing and are often wrong. Stick with your Taylor and trust your results.

They have various results. Sometimes they work, but sometimes it makes things worse and it will take longer to get your pool back in order. If you follow the TFP methods they work and there is no reason for Floc. You have to sit back and have some POP aka pool owner patience. I know it is hard, because I have been there too, but I stuck with all the TFP recommendations and methods and do not regret it one bit.

I highly recommend you go to POOL School and read and read again. Once you understand what to do and how to take care of your pool it will be all downhill.

I lurked on TFP for a whole winter just reading and understanding. This allowed me the confidence to never go to the pool store anymore and care for our pool the TFP way and access to a family style web forum with a wealth of knowledge for any pool issues.

Good Luck

Ok, help!

We flocced the pool and got a bunch of gunk out. NOw the pool is teel blue. Oh we have well water too and have had to refill a 25% drain to get our CYA down. Now we are

7.1 PH
CC 7
FC 0

We shocked with 20 lbs of dichlor this morning. CC went to 6 in 4 hours. What do we need to get the extra boost of chlorine and to get FC to hold?

Should I shock my pool??

I have a 32,000 gallon pool, sand filter, vinyl liner. Still trying to get water cleared and need some advice.

CC 2
FC .5
PH 7.2
Alk 259
Hard 240
CYA 80

Based on the pool calculator we are thinking to shock the pool with 10 gallons of 12.5% bleach tonight. Can someone confirm that's correct?

Re: Should I shock my pool??

No, following our system it is not correct. We do not "shock" our pools, we follow the SLAM Process when there is a problem.

But at this point I'm not sure you have a problem other than not having sufficient chlorine in the water. With a CYA of 8- your FC should never go below 6 and you should really target 9 to account for the loss to UV during the day.

I would recommend you conduct an Overnight FC Loss Test (OCLT) to see if anything is growing in the water.

I did post a picture. Not sure i did it right.

It's definitely better. Just not enough free chlorine. So do we slam or just add chlorine? Also, is it a problem to have high alkalinity?

It's sideways, but I can see it. It looks more like copper in the water due ot the "clear" green color. The algecide you say you used in the first post, was it copper based? Have you used a lot of it?

Sorry about the sideways picture. I'm not sure how much algaecide we out in. However it's not been an issue before. But then again every year is different with out pool.
We plan to put liquid chlorine in it tonight. Should I SLAM it or put in a smaller amount to get.higher free chlorine?

Also our well water has a yellow tint to it. We have a filter on the end zone of the hose but still gets some iron in the pool. Would that make the water the color it is?
