Nasty Black Pool Inherited from Home Purchase

Ok for all of my fans. The SLAM is done and I couldn't be more proud of what I have accomplished. It looks awesome!! It also has that twinkle that has been mentioned. My son dropped a penny in there on accident so I took a picture of that so you can see how clear it is. Almost make out Ole Abe's head. :)
It wouldn't have been possible without my credit card and the knowledge shared on here. Thanks to everyone!!!

Time to throw that girl in the pool. congrats on the succesful SLAM. I know you were getting discouraged but you pulled through. Its nice knowing that you'll never have to do that again. Only thing left to do now is relax and enjoy it.

I also switched to cellulose in my DE filter. I think it makes the water sparkle even more than the DE. It's safer and biodegradable. On the down side, it does cost a little more to use and it seems to not backwash quite as easily, so I have to do a breakdown cleaning more often.

But, if you want to become a snob about how the water sparkles and how clear you can get it, give it a try.

If you are planning any vacations this summer, might be best to leave it at 35. That way you can just float some pucks while you are gone and it will bring your CYA up a bit. Thats what I normally do while I'm away to help chlorinate while I cant tend to it.

Also for my recommended level of FC it is between 4 and 5 with CYA at 35. I'd like to be able to use the DPD test to check my FC levels as it's easier. So I think I'll keep it at 35 for that reason too. Any higher and I have to use the FAS test. I'm going to shoot to maintain between 4 and 5 and see how the pool acts.

What a cutie! I agree she needs to be thrown in just for the fun of it! Has she been in yet?

You will learn YOUR pool. Play with the levels to find what your pool likes and how it looks best. Write everything that you down so you will be able to notice a trend.

Teach her to blow bubbles in the bath tub like a motor boat. Move to doing it in the pool.

Also have her hang onto the side or your hands and kick her feet to get her body up parallel. A kick board is also good to help her learn to use her kicks to move her body.

You might want to look into private swimming lessons (pretty please) just to be on the safe side.

Your backyard is probably looking better than it has looked in a LONG time!

With a good instructor, I saw my neighbor's daughter, (just about her size) go from a non swimmer to a fish in a couple days. She even learned how to climb out of the pool in the deep end with no ladder or steps, by pulling herself to the side and rolling out onto the deck. I watched the kid demonstrate in amazement. I don't think I could do it!
