My year of pool troubles... DE4800 Filter blowing algae and DE back into pool while vacuuming.

Hi all, I'm having issues with my pool and it seems I'm chasing my tail. I have repaired/replaced some of the grids in my DE4800 (Hayward) 3 times since opening this year. I believe the grids are worn out and I will be replacing them.
Does the grid fabric breakdown and get weak over time?
My Vari-flow valve inlet port is cracked and leaking. I am unable to keep the air out of the system and I find the filter is not filling all the way because of this.
Would the air be causing the blow outs in the grid?
The 3 port valve leading into the pump is also damaged, I don't think it is drawing air, but not sure.
There is also a bad gasket on the pump basket lid, seems to be holding and a new one is on order.
We were in ground zero when Beryl passed by, been fighting the pool since.
The age old problem of not enough money is slowing things down.

Yes, grids can wear out. They can also tear, get holes from larger debris, split at a sewn seam.
Air will not enter the filter from the cracked MPV unless the system is off. Air can enter the system when the pump is on from a leaking suction line, a bad pump lid O ring, a leaking shaft seal.
You could also be missing an air-relief screen in the filter, or it may be damaged, which will allow debris to flow straight back to the pool on vacuuming, just like a damaged grid..

Thanks for the reply 1poolman1. I'm not sure of what the air relief screen is. I know of the air relief valve but not the screen. My DE-4800 is an older model. I don't know how old but at least 20 years. Could you describe the part and it's location? Is it the small hose at the top?

Part 11b in the diagram on the page below. If there is no "screen" but only a hose, that's what's allowing debris back to the pool.
