Also for swimming, you want CC to be preferably 0.5 or less and clear water where you can easily see the bottom in the deep end. You can swim up to shock level FC for your Cya.

When I'm vacuuming now, I'm most just seeing some algae laying around, no big leaves or anything, should I be vacuuming to waste or filter? I just want to do anything I can to speed up this process.

It is up to you is you want to vacuum to waste or filter. If the particles are small you might as well just vaccume to filter and backwash when needed
You aren't near close enough for swim time there yet. Sorry to have bad news, but you have a good way to go before swimming.
Don't get discouraged. This took 2 weeks of solid work and checking the pool every 2 hours. If I can do it, so can you!

Looking better, I can see the bottom pretty much all over except the deepest point, but I can see the main drain more clearly. I just got done vacuuming, looked like "sand" laying in rows along the bottom. I'm guessing it's still algae?
I'll post a pic of the pool later this afternoon, the water is pretty stirred up right now.

That's funny. I was talking to my dad last night who has a cloudy pool and cannot get rid of it. He is going to go get pool stored today. Some people never listen.
Wish he lived close enough to run over with my K2006 to get him squared up.

Is it ok to put my ladder in the water now, or do I need to wait until the chlorine is down to "normal" level?
I would leave it out until your are clear enough to swim. No need for it to be in right now.

Lisa, it's ok.. No problem! I'm just maintaining FC level and vacuuming twice a day and skimming. At the firehouse tomorrow, wife and son will maintain the chlorine and sweep the bottom at least twice. I haven't showed them how to hook up to vacuum yet.
Just keep pounding it Teerump, that and what you are doing sweeping and vac'ing will get you there. Honestly, as Black as it looked at the start, this is going pretty well.
